A Military Unit recognised by the Imperial Army.

Description (Specifications)

A unit sized between a Battalion and a Brigade.

A Regiment is typically commanded by a Colonel.

Regiments are the smallest unit normally deployed by the Imperial Army for planetary actions.

Imperial Marine Regiments are predominantly administrative in nature, nominally containing 3 Marine Task Force headquarters units and 9 Marine Companies along with various smaller units performing specialist functions, which can be formed into missions-specific Task-Forces as needed. For large-scale operations, Marine Regimental Battalions are deployed on planet as the core of Expeditionary Units, or Regimental Combat Teams can form the components of larger Expeditionary Brigades or Marine Divisions.

History & Background (Dossier)

As the unit size one larger than a Battalion, this is a long-standing standard definition that has been around since pre-space days.

Regiments typically field a number of Battalions to be about 5 times as combat effective as a Battalion alone.
