Jump Infantry
Troops parachuted, or using grav-belts to land after being dropped from low orbit.
Description (Specifications)[edit]
Jump Infantry are a technologically sophisticated type of Light Infantry organised to be transported and deployed quickly; equipped with Vacc Suits, Combat Armour or Battledress for operation in a Vacuum; equipped with Atmospheric Re-entry Kit, Drop Capsule (or similar) to allow deployment from Low-Orbit and equipped with Parachute, Parawing or Grav Belt to enable safe descent to the planet or planetoid's surface.
Because of the Low-Orbit insertion techniques used, Jump Infantry and also known as Drop Troops.
Jump Infantry are generally regular infantry because of the training levels required, but this is not always the case. The Zhodani Consular Army's 42nd Planetary Assault Battalion is a provincial unit. All Imperial Marines units are trained and equipped as Jump Infantry.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
Jump Infantry have been in the inventory of space-going states for many centuries, even during the Interstellar Wars[1]. They were used extensively during the recent Solomani Rim War and the Fourth and Fifth Frontier Wars.
note: Neither the Vargr nor the Sword Worlds militaries used large formations of Jump Infantry during the Fifth Frontier War.
