History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
The Floriani began to expand from their homeworld Floria (Trojan Reach 0213) in -170.
Demographics[edit]
Significant populations of the following sophont races exist within this polity:
Linguistics[edit]
See: Floriani.
The Barnai are capable of learning and using non-Floriani languages. Since the Florian League incorporates several systems colonised by other Humans -- Vilani, Solomani, and a minor race called Halkan -- a visitor will hear minority languages in use alongside the formal tongue. The most common language used for trade and diplomacy is the Vilani-descended dialect originally spoken on Trossachs (Trojan Reach 0310). A few Barnai speak Galanglic or Trokh (the primary Aslan language).
Major Historical Events Timeline: 1116[edit]
These are some of the more important historical events that have affected this polity:

Government & Politics (Leadership)[edit]
The League is governed by a hierarchy of councils, where councilors are chosen from among the Barnai populace by lottery.
The Florian League is governed at various levels by randomly selected leaders. Staggered lotteries exist for each level of government -- municipal, provincial, world, and League -- and the winners must sit on government councils for a four-year term. Ten municipal districts form a province, and there are ten provinces to a world. After serving one term, all officials must retire from government and may never be entered in a Lottery again. This form of democracy prevents dictatorship and lust for power, and gives a safe, though constantly changing, government. Councilship (as it is called) is not open to Feskals.
The government is supported by a standard bureaucracy, which also administers the Floriani legal system. This legal system is similar to Imperial law, with a judge (from the bureaucracy) and a jury of five. However, there are no set crimes and punishments: unlike in the Imperium, where one attempts to discover whether a specific crime was committed, the Floriani system tries to determine if what was done constitutes a crime. As an example, in the Imperium, the court tries to ascertain if subject 'A' committed a murder; while in the Florian League, the court must decide whether the murder which 'A' committed was a crime, and should be punished.
Interstellar Relations[edit]
For reasons unexplained, the I'Sred*Ni Protectorate will not trade with the League, refusing them participation in the Web Edge Agreement.
Technology & Trade (Economy)[edit]
The Floriani are also noteworthy for their unusual path of technological development.
- Highly advanced in the realms of transportation and weaponry, the Floriani are abnormally backward in the life sciences.
- Within the Florian League, the masses have odd notions toward technology, and all Floriani instinctively shy away from true research. Even creativity in the arts is a rarity.
Interstellar Commerce[edit]
The Tlientir is the common currency of the League.
The following businesses operate out of or in this polity:
- Gli! Fong! Uric! Ka ("Acquisition-of-Things-Not-Us").
- Vorkash Manufacturing
The Floriani government also administers the Florian Mail service.
- This service runs Jump-4 mail boats (based on X-boat designs) which carry mail, packages, and information.

Military & Intelligence (Force Projection)[edit]
The League Military also falls under the government's jurisdiction. This is the A’noss Rianell Floriani, the Florian War Group. Comprising some 80 ships, including cruisers, troop carriers, and SDBs, and five divisions of troops, the War Group is chiefly employed as a border patrol and defense network against Aslan raids.
