Indarin is a poor, low-population hellworld with a population less than 10,000 sophonts struggling to survive in an inhospitable environment.

  • Hellworlds often offer daily, and sometimes even hourly, life-threatening situations to their inhabitants. Survivors often develop intense survival skills and tend to be grim realists.
  • This world is a "Twilight Zone World", a planet that is tidally-locked to its star. It has a hot side that permanently faces the star, a cold side that permanently faces away, and a narrow twilight zone in-between.
  • It is a member of the Florian League in the Florian Subsector of Beyond Sector.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

World Starport[edit]

Indarin has a Class B Starport, a good quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and most kinds of repair, and construction of non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.

World Population (P)[edit]

Indarin has a population of 5,000 sophonts (thousands).

  • This is a Low Population World and the population would be too low to sustain itself without a little outside assistance. This may represent the home base of a sizable but mostly transient population such as the base of a major starship expedition, the last generation of a dying colony, the first generation of a new colony, or a large outpost that will probably evolve into a colony if not stopped.

World Demographics[edit]

The population is almost entirely Floriani.

World Languages[edit]

World Technology Level[edit]

Indarin possesses a Technology Level of TL–11 or TL-B in Hexadecimal Notation.

World Government[edit]

Indarin is governed by Self-Perpetuating Oligarchy. A single family or small group provides the leadership and important positions within the government. These positions are inherited by members of the group or by their relatives. The organization may be a monarchy, with titles passed to family members, or a plutocracy where inheritance of the family fortune includes government position. Alternatively, the organization may be a more typical government apparatus, only with positions of power inherited.

World Law (L)[edit]

Indarin has a moderate level with laws covering many areas of government and interaction. These laws are simple enough that most people can act as their own advocate, though for serious issues a professional is recommended. Law enforcement officials will be present, but not in great numbers. All firearms except shotguns, and anything more destructive, are typically regulated or prohibited.

The government is supported by a standard bureaucracy, which also administers the Floriani legal system. This legal system is similar to Imperial law, with a judge (from the bureaucracy) and a jury of five. However, there are no set crimes and punishments: unlike in the Imperium, where one attempts to discover whether a specific crime was committed, the Floriani system tries to determine if what was done constitutes a crime; depending on context it might not be.

Economy[edit]

The Florian currency is the tlientir.

The League imposes a moderate income tax on all citizens and resident non-citizens. This tax is supplemented by various fees paid to the government for services.

World Culture[edit]

The diminutive Barnai are the leaders and intellectuals; the hulking Feskals the labour. Feskals are obedient to Barnai.

Barnai live a life of leisure for their first 16 years. Schooling consists of directed personal study, with each student pursuing individual interests. Once a Barnai reaches maturity at the age of 20, they are expected to perform some sort of public service for a few years.
