Testrous is a poor, nonindustrial world.
- As a nonindustrial world, it requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. The need to import most manufactured and high technology goods drives the price of these goods up in the open market.
- This world has few prospects for economic development.
- It is a member of the Florian League in the Florian Subsector of Beyond Sector.
Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]
Stellar Data[edit]
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
Florian jump-2 trade ships leave Testrous for Tellus, from there gaining access to the trade networks of trailing Beyond Sector.
World Starport[edit]
Testrous has a Class B Starport, a good quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and most kinds of repair, and construction of non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.
World Population (P)[edit]
Testrous has a population of 50,000 sophonts (tens of thousands).
- This is a Nonindustrial World, too small to support the complete chain of production of most goods from start to finish.
- The population consists of Floriani.
World Demographics[edit]
Although some Floriani genetic sequences can also be found in other Human races, the overall genetic structures are very different. Scientists speculate (correctly) that the two Florian races are completely artificial constructs, built by the Ancients on a template of Human DNA.
World Languages[edit]
World Technology Level[edit]
Testrous possesses a Technology Level of TL–11 or TL-B in Hexadecimal Notation.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Holovision, Personal Global Communications, and advanced Translators.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Increasingly advanced fusion plants and advanced fuel cells.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land, Water & Air: Personal G-Tubes and advanced gravcraft.
- Space: Advanced interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).
- FTL: Jump Drive-2.
World Government[edit]
Testrous is governed by Self-Perpetuating Oligarchy. A single family or small group provides the leadership and important positions in the government. These positions are inherited by member of the group or their family members. The organization may be a monarchy, with titles passed to family members, or a plutocracy where inheritance of the family fortune includes government position. Alternatively, the organization may be a more typical government apparatus, only with positions of power inherited.
This is highly unusual for a world of the Florian League, but is a feature shared with nearby Micruss.
World Law (L)[edit]
Testrous has a moderate law level with laws covering many areas of government and interaction. These laws are simple enough that most people can act as their own advocate, though for serious issues a professional is recommended. Law enforcement officials will be present, but not in great numbers. Light assault weapons, and anything more destructive, are typically regulated or prohibited.
The government is supported by a standard bureaucracy, which also administers the Floriani legal system. This legal system is similar to Imperial law, with a judge (from the bureaucracy) and a jury of five. However, there are no set crimes and punishments: unlike in the Imperium, where one attempts to discover whether a specific crime was committed, the Floriani system tries to determine if what was done constitutes a crime; depending on context it might not be.
Economy[edit]
The Florian currency is the tlientir.
The League imposes a moderate income tax on all citizens and resident non-citizens. This tax is supplemented by various fees paid to the government for services.
World Culture[edit]
The diminutive Barnai are the leaders and intellectuals; the hulking Feskals the labour. Feskals are obedient to Barnai.
Barnai live a life of leisure for their first 16 years. Schooling consists of directed personal study, with each student pursuing individual interests. Once a Barnai reaches maturity at the age of 20, they are expected to perform some sort of public service for a few years.
