Montserat is a preindustrial, moderate population water world with over a hundred million, but not yet a billion sophonts in population size.
- Its surface is 90% or more covered in an ocean of water.
- The inhabitants of this world live on the roughly 10% of exposed land mass, in underwater colonies, on city ships, or similar arrangements.
- As a preindustrial world, this planet cannot yet manufacture enough high-technology resources to support a modern, star-faring society. Having to import most manufactured and high tech goods drives the price up for these items at this world.
- It is a Non-Aligned world dominated by human sophonts located in the Bengalaz Subsector of Theta Borealis Sector.
- This is a "Puzzle" world designated as an Amber Zone. Caution is advised since the world has an environment, laws, customs, life forms, or other conditions that are not well understood and might be a danger to a visitor.
Description (Astrography & Planetology)
Rho Borealis, the primary star of the system, can be seen from across Charted Space.
System Data
The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:
- The mainworld.
- x6 secondary rocky worlds.
- x2 planetoid belts.
- x1 gas giant.
Mainworld Data
No information yet available.
Mainworld Size (S)
Montserat is a Big World between 13,600km and 15,200km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 1G and 1.3G. The horizon will appear about 5.4km away. Vessels with only 1G of thrust should avoid landing on this world.
Mainworld Atmosphere (A)
Montserat has a pressure of 0.71 to 1.49 atmospheres. While a Standard Atmosphere does not require survival gear this atmosphere also contains an unusual taint such as disease, a hazardous gas mix, pollutants, or sulfur compounds which requires the use of a Filter Mask. Some taints may require more protective equipment. TL–3 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.
Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)
Montserat has 95-100% of its surface covered by liquid water with only a few islands and archipelagos. Wilderness refueling is possible. Such worlds are Water Worlds or Ocean Worlds.
Satellites:
No information yet available.
Mainworld Geography and Topography
No information yet available.
Native Lifeforms
Primitive aquatic native life. Its metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal.
History & Background (Dossier)
No information yet available.
World Starport (St)
Montserat has a Class B Starport, a good quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and most kinds of repair, and construction of non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.
Facilities
Port facilities within the system include:
- No information yet available.
World Technology Level (T)
Montserat possesses a Technology Level of TL–10 or TL-A in Hexadecimal Notation.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Holovision, Personal Global Communications, and advanced Translators.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Increasingly advanced fusion plants and advanced fuel cells.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land & Water: Grav belts and maturing gravcraft.
- Air: Greatly improved hybrid grav-aircraft.
- Space: Improved interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).
- FTL: Jump Drive-1.
World Government (G)
Montserat is governed by a Charismatic Dictatorship. Charismatic governments justify their ability to rule by simply asserting their right to rule. Charismatic dictatorships are typically young governments, coming as a recent change, and rely on the leader(s) to supply head of government.
World Military
No information yet available.
World Law (L)
Montserat has an extreme law level which covers every area of interaction. Laws are complex, detailed, and difficult to understand. Every interaction with the government requires an Advocate. Law enforcement is omnipresent and strict. Legal proceeding can take months to years to resolve and may involve dozens of people. A world with this law level may be an Amber Zone or a Red Zone. All objects specifically manufactured as weapons are typically regulated or prohibited (with no exception for private residences; visiting starships are only protected so long as they stay within designated starports and approach corridors). Civilian movement is rigidly controlled. On worlds with this degree of law, it is difficult to distinguish the police from the military. On others, there is no difference.
World Economy
- Resources: D (very abundant)
- Labor: 7 (tens of millions)
- Infrastructure: B (very extensive)
- Efficiency: +5 (very advanced)
Trade Data
- Importance: 2 (ordinary)
World Demographics (P)
Montserat has a population of 500,000,000
Urbanization
Multiple large urban centers are surrounded by smaller satellite communities.
- Inhabited areas are dotted across the world.
- Large regions of the surface of the world remains as wilderness.
World Culture
- Homogeneity: C (fragmented)
- Acceptance: A (very friendly)
- Strangeness: 9 (extremely confusing)
- Symbols: E (extremely abstract)
World Timeline

UWP Listing
