Starships are designed with the Classic Traveller format, using High Guard Shipyard v1.13 written by Andrea Vallance.

The Idris class Frigate is a combatant warship.

Description (Specifications)[edit]

The Idris class Frigate was designed for service with the Bain Defense Squadron, the space force of Bain, a world lying in Spica Sector and a member of both the Boötean Federation and the Solomani Confederation. Though the carriers are tiny by the standards of most Solomani Confederation vessels they are occasionally called upon for Federation and Confederation service. The Idris lacks the marines of the larger Javelin class Destroyer.

  • The vessel is a TL-10 design.

Basic Ship Characteristics[edit]

Following the Imperial Navy and IISS Universal Ship Profile and data, additional information is presented in the format shown here. The small craft factor indicates the number of squadrons (...of ten subcraft) carried on the ship. Tonnage on the universal ship profile is shown in kilotons (...thousands of tons) where necessary. [1]

Basic Ship Characteristics [2]
No. Category Remarks
1. Tonnage / Hull The Idris class is constructed using a 239 Ton hull built in a Close Structure configuration. The hull is partially streamlined, giving a relatively limited atmospheric performance that is reliant on its onboard gravitic systems.
  • There are two airlocks. The cargo hold is accessed by a hatch.
  • The vessel has sturdy fixed legs, allowing surface landings.
2. Crew x11 personnel.
  • x1 Pilot, Navigator, x3 Engineers, x1 Medic, x5 Gunners.

Accommodations

  • There are 5.5 Staterooms. All quarters are double occupancy.

Accessible areas of the hull are fitted with grav plates and inertial compensators and have full life support and environmental systems.

  • There are internal monitoring and security systems throughout the vessel. Individual sections of the hull can be sealed off.
  • There are multiple emergency lockers.
3. Performance The vessel mounts a Jump-1 drive, a Maneuver-6 drive, and a Power Plant-6, giving performance of Jump-1 and 6-G acceleration. The ship has an agility rating of 4 and an emergency agility of 4. The internal fuel tankage is sufficient for two consecutive Jump-1s and gives the power plant 4 weeks duration.
  • The engineering section has a main control room.
  • The jump drive utilizes a hull grid.
  • The jump drive is fitted with a jump governor.
4. Electronics Adjacent to the bridge is a Model/4fib computer: no backup computer is installed.
  • There are multiple workstations and control points throughout the vessel.
  • The vessel is fitted with communications equipment, a standard sensor array, and has an avionics suite.
  • It has a transponder unit that can be deactivated on command.
  • It is equipped with a sophisticated ECM package.
5. Hardpoints x2 hardpoints.
  • The listed battery groupings are standard configurations for the class. Alternative battery groupings may be designated for specific missions.
6. Armament The normal weapons fit-out for an Idris class is:
  • (x2) Plasma Guns firing as two batteries, and (3) Missile Launchers firing as three batteries.
7. Defenses The hull is plated, structurally reinforced, and built with secure bulkheads and compartments that give it a High Guard armor rating of 2.
8. Craft Vehicles

The vehicle hanger can be sealed and has a volume of 4.0 Tons.

9. Fuel Treatment The vessel has internal fuel tankage of 62.14 Tons.
  • The hull is fitted with fuel scoops.
  • The vessel is equipped with a fuel purification plant that can refine all onboard fuel in a few hours: the plant is operated and maintained by the engineering crew.
10. Cost The basic cost of the vessel is MCr248.060
  • Architects Fee: MCr2.481
11. Construction Time 60 weeks (14 months) as standard.
  • Build times can be reduced by mass production and the efficiencies such processes generate, by increased financing, and by allotting additional yard resources and facilities to the construction contract.
12. Comments Standard cargo capacity amounts to 1.92 Tons.
  • The cargo hold can be sealed and has independent life support and environmental systems.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

The Idris class Frigate serves with the Bain Defense Squadron, the space force of Bain, a Solomani world lying in Spica Sector. It mounts a dual Plasma Gun turret and a triple Missile turret. The missiles give it some degree of offensive capability while the Plasma Guns are effective against missiles and fighters, allowing it to serve in a close escort role. The Idris class are partially streamlined to allow wilderness refueling.
