Bolivar (Da 0240) is a garden world with an environment conducive to most sophonts. The system has a population over one billion. This system serves as the capital for the subsector. This world is designated an Amber Zone. Caution is advised since the world has an environment, laws, customs, life forms, or other conditions that are not well understood and might be a danger to a visitor. This is a high technology world with available technology over the standards for Charted Space.  This is a temperate world, with a climate of average temperatures.  The world has a colony on Tarija (Dagudashaag 0539). It is a member of Third Imperium in the Bolivar Subsector of Dagudashaag Sector and in the Domain of Vland. Bolivar (Da 0240), as a member world of the Third Imperium, holds the estates of an Imperial knight (the Imperial representative to the world) and a baronet, and the fiefdoms of a count and the Subsector duke. All four are members of the Imperial Landed Nobility who oversee affairs regarding the world at an Interstellar and Imperial level. The system supports both an Imperial Naval Base and a Scout Base with the additional starship traffic. Less than 10% of the world's population is the Major Race Aslan. During the Long Night this world was named Bolivar.

Astrography and Planetology

Bolivar is a member of the Gushemege Main.

System Data

The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:

Mainworld Data

Bolivar has a very attractive and comfortable biosphere, almost ideal for Human habitation. Much of the natural beauty of the world is unspoilt; the majority of the population are concentrated in large metropolitan and urban areas. Much of the countryside has restricted access, being owned by private companies, individuals, and the planetary government. Ocean refueling is strictly forbidden.

Mainworld Size (S)

Bolivar is a Meso World between 10,400km and 12,000km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.7G and 0.9G. The horizon will appear about 4.7km away.

Mainworld Atmosphere (A)

Bolivar has a pressure of 1.50 to 2.49 atmospheres. A Dense Atmosphere requires no survival gear although it may be hard on sophonts not accustomed to it.

Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)

Bolivar has 55-65% of its surface covered by liquid water. It has significant large liquid bodies. Wilderness refueling is possible.

Mainworld Topography and Geography

Bolivar has six major continents, eight minor continents and twelve major islands.

  • Amaru (major continent)
    • Barrantabennija (town)
    • Petora (town)
  • Antioquia (major continent)
  • Inderena (major continent)
    • Parque de los Nevados (the largest of the nature reserves)
      • Casacada de Paguche
  • Natal (major continent, the largest)
    • Olmedo Peninsula
    • Parque Machalilla
    • Playa Guayaquil (popular tourist beach)
    • Puerto San Juan (capital city)
  • Tierradentro (major continent)
  • Tolima (major continent)

Other features:

  • Ice Lakes of Antioquia
    • Laguna Grande
    • Lago Rapel
    • Laguna Blanca
  • Sierra de la Macarena
    • Mountains include El Ruiz, El Cisne, Cayambe, Imbabura, and Alpamayo

Native Lifeforms

The biosphere is complex and well-developed. Much of it is edible to Humans, including 20% of the flora and much of the marine life. The most popular seafood items are the Setwan Eel (usually known as just Setwan) and the Henengar, a shellfish.

History and Background

As the subsector capital, Bolivar is the center of attention and has all the features of a high-technology, high population world. What makes Bolivar unique is the near total Solomani-originated population in what is a traditionally a Vilani-dominated region.

Most of the Solomani are immigrants from the Iberian-influenced South American continent of Terra (Solomani Rim 1827). The world has a very dynamic socio-political structure, subject to many upheavals during its history -- massive immigration, popular discord, commercial exploration, terrorism, military interventions, government incompetence, and assassinations. Much of that is just history now, thanks to the Bolivar family who have used the promise of equality and justice to bond the disparate social groups, and for the most part have succeeded. In general, Bolivar is today a stable, thriving, and exciting world.

Llelish Interstellar, the leading media corporation within Ilelish Sector, maintains facilities and offices on the world.

World Starport (Sp)

Bolivar has a Class A Starport, an excellent quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and other kinds of repair, and construction of both starships and non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.

  • There is an associated Imperial Naval Base, hosting the headquarters for the 83rd Fleet.
  • There are also 42 cities on Bolivar with F-class spaceports.

World Population (P)

Bolivar has a population of 8,000,000,000 sophonts (billions).

World Demographics

  • Human, 96%
    • The vast majority are Solomani, usually of South American descent with a significant minority of those of West African descent.
    • Around 5% of the Humans are non-Solomani, many of them Suerrat, with only a few thousand pure Vilani and an equal number of Ziadd.
  • Aslan, 3%
  • Other, 1%

World Government (G)

Bolivar is governed by an Impersonal Bureaucracy. The leadership of the government takes another form (democracy, dictatorship, oligarchy), but the bureaucracy dictates government policy and its execution. Government leadership is reduced to little more than figureheads and does not select the bureaucracy leadership or its members.

Society on Bolivar is traditionally stratified, with a well-defined class system. At the top of the pyramid is an upper class composed of senior management executives, staff officers of the military, and politicians.
