The Krotan of Krota (Gzirr!k'l 1833) are a Minor Non-Human Race with a non-humanoid appearance. They are technologically advanced sophonts.

Description (Specifications)[edit]

Adult Krotan do not eat, surviving solely on stored reserves from their younger, omnivorous sessile phase. Their metabolism only provides energy when needed, and the Krotan are famous for their concern with efficiency -- it directly affects their lifespan.

Psychology[edit]

'Stubborn as a Krotan' is a common phrase among spacers in the trailing regions of Charted Space. Avoidance strategies are a primary means of dealing with disputes. If a disagreement persists, Krotan will 'shell out' a person, by locking themselves up in their carapace and pretending the other party is not there. This extends to whole races -- the Krotan deal extensively with members of the Hive Federation and clients of the Two Thousand Worlds, but have collectively "shelled out" the Hivers and K'kree themselves.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

The Krotan are a minor, non-human race that have a small interstellar state located between the Two Thousand Worlds and the Hive Federation. Although this was the location of major engagements in the Hiver-K'kree War, the passive and trade-obsessed Krotan have acted as a buffer state between the two Major Races, and the peace has held for thousands of years.

The Krotan excel at creating and maintaining trade networks, due to a natural efficiency at gathering and distributing resources. They maintain relations and trade extensively with the Gurvin, Za'tachk, and other Hive Federation races while strictly ignoring the Hivers themselves.

Language[edit]

Krotan communicate through audible shell vibrations. Therefore, the Krotan rely on computerised translators and their own language is highly efficient, both detailed and terse. The translated, humanoid-friendly form of the language (below) is often considered difficult for other races regardless.
