Opred is an agricultural, nonindustrial world still lacking adequate means to expand its economy.
- As an agricultural world, this world is a near-ideal environment for producing quality foodstuffs of plant, animal, and other forms. Quality foodstuffs are a major export commodity for this world.
- It requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. Having to import most manufactured and high tech goods drives the price up for these items at this world.
- It is a member of the Krotan Primacy in the Uan Subsector of Gzirr!k'l Sector.
Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]
This world is part of the cluster known as the Krotan Arc.
Stellar Data[edit]
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
World Starport (St)[edit]
Opred has a Class B Starport, a good quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and most kinds of repair, and construction of non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.
World Population (P)[edit]
Opred has a population of 500,000 sophonts (hundreds of thousands).
- This is a Nonindustrial World, too small to support the complete chain of production of most goods from start to finish.
- Krotan world statistics represent all adult and mobile Krotan. The "shoals" on a given world will hold around 100 sessile pre-adult, senescent or post-adult Krotan for every active adult.
World Languages[edit]
Krotan communicate through audible shell vibrations. With aliens, the Krotan rely on computerised translators. The planet name is representative of nouns as translated into Humanoid-suitable speech.
- Krotan is highly efficient, both detailed and terse.
World Technology Level (T)[edit]
Opred possesses a Technology Level of TL–11 or TL-B in Hexadecimal Notation.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Holovision, Personal Global Communications, and advanced Translators.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Increasingly advanced fusion plants and advanced fuel cells.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land, Water & Air: Personal G-Tubes and advanced gravcraft.
- Space: Advanced interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).
- FTL: Jump Drive-2.
World Government (G)[edit]
Opred is governed by Self-Perpetuating Oligarchy. A single family or small group provides the leadership and important positions within the government. These positions are inherited by members of the group or by their relatives. The organization may be a monarchy, with titles passed to family members, or a plutocracy where inheritance of the family fortune includes government position. Alternatively, the organization may be a more typical government apparatus, only with positions of power inherited.
- Krotan do not actually factionalise as most species do. Adult Krotan are a stage in the species' lifecycle between sessile youth and equally sessile old age -- every Krotan adult knows they came from the shoal and will return to it. Disagreement is resolved by the shoal or dealt with through classic Krotan avoidance strategy, ignoring the other party.
World Military[edit]
The Krotan have no dedicated military but maintain something like a militia, where individuals learn basic combat skills should they be necessary to protect their world. Their personal weapon technology is relatively primitive for their Tech Level, because they find heavy weapons to be the most efficient way to deal with opposition.
