Storm Rider is a nonindustrial world, that requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society.

  • In a technological universe, societies without industrial capability generally suffer as nearly all manufactured and high tech goods must be brought in at significant cost.
  • As a nonindustrial world, it requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. The need to import most manufactured and high technology goods drives the price of these goods up in the open market.
  • It is a Non-Aligned world dominated by human sophonts located in the Duhamel Subsector of Theta Borealis Sector.

Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]

Stellar Data[edit]

Storm Rider is a binary star system.

  • The primary is a turbulent yellow giant named Aelra.
  • The secondary is an orange main sequence named Maskinn.
Storm Rider has two stars in the star system.

Notes[edit]

The two stars of the Storm Rider system have an average separation of 450 AU and orbit a barycenter that lies between them.

System Data[edit]

The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:

Mainworld Data[edit]

The mainworld orbits within the secondary star's Habitable Zone.

  • It lies within the zone's prime H region.
  • It receives moderate levels of stellar energy.

Mainworld Size (S)[edit]

Storm Rider is a Meso World between 7,200km and 8,800km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.4G and 0.57G. The horizon will appear about 4km away.

Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]

Storm Rider has a pressure of 0.71 to 1.49 atmospheres. While a Standard Atmosphere does not require survival gear this atmosphere also contains an unusual taint such as disease, a hazardous gas mix, pollutants, or sulfur compounds which requires the use of a Filter Mask. Some taints may require more protective equipment. TL–3 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.

Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]

Storm Rider has 25-35% of its surface covered by liquid water. It has a few small seas. Wilderness refueling is possible. Water for the inhabitants will be recycled.

  • Much of the surface is an arid, hostile environment.

Satellites:[edit]

Storm Rider retains a small, heavily cratered vacuum moon.

  • The world orbits once every few weeks.

Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]

No centrally held map of the world exists within AAB Library Data records.

  • Locally, detailed maps may be available.
  • Verified updated charts are constantly sought.
  • Detailed survey data commands premium prices.

Native Lifeforms[edit]

Abundant native life occupying every available ecological niche. Its metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

Comp-Prog-Dav-R-Deitrick-Starter-Trav-Page-16 16-July-2018a.jpg

Storm Rider is a transshipment hub. Most economic activity is centered around the starport.

  • A few businesses and private individuals exploit the world's rich mineral resources.

There is regular activity within the system.

  • Commercial traffic is frequent: ships regularly arrive and depart.
  • Commo is filled with signals and private chatter. Communications are in Riftian Anglic.
    • Strong signals and interference are generated by the primary star.
  • Multiple commercial navigation beacons will be active.
  • A number of vessels will be operating among the other worlds and moons that make up the system.

Note that social data, though only 40 years old, may be out of date.

  • Verified updated data is constantly sought.

World Starport (St)[edit]

Storm Rider has a Class A Starport, an excellent quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and other kinds of repair, and construction of both starships and non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.

World Demographics (P)[edit]

Storm Rider has a population of 300,000.

Urbanization[edit]

A few large urban centers are surrounded by smaller satellite communities.

  • The population are concentrated into a single relatively densely populated region.
  • Small mineral extraction sites are dotted across the world.
  • Much of the surface of the world remains as wilderness.

World Technology Level (T)[edit]

Storm Rider possesses a Technology Level of TL–13 or TL-D in Hexadecimal Notation.

  • Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Holovideo recorders.
  • Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Miniature super-batteries, prototype collectors, advanced fusion plants.
  • Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:

World Government (G)[edit]

Storm Rider is governed by a Participatory Democracy where eligible voters determine laws and policy. What determines an eligible voter varies. There may be smaller councils or regional bodies to draft the policies voted upon. Leadership of the government and all members of the bureaucracy are determined by the voting population.

World Military[edit]

Approximately 1000 personnel.

World Law (L)[edit]

Storm Rider has no law in practice. It is an Anarchy. On many worlds, this by itself justifies an Amber Zone advisory. There are few laws, covering only important areas. There may be few or no law enforcement officers, the expectation is citizens will bring law breakers to the attention of the Judicial system. Legal proceedings will be fast, with few people involved. For interactions outside of the framework of the laws, cultural norms dominate.

World Economy[edit]

  • Resources: B (abundant)
  • Labor: 4 (tens of thousands)
  • Infrastructure: 5 (limited)
  • Efficiency: -3 (poor)

Trade Data[edit]

  • Importance: 1 (ordinary)

World Culture[edit]

  • Homogeneity: 1 (monolithic)
  • Acceptance: 6 (aloof)
  • Strangeness: 1 (very typical)
  • Symbols: 8 (somewhat abstract)
