Shur (GR 1209) is a poor, non-agricultural and nonindustrial world.
- It requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society.
- It is unable to produce quality foodstuffs and must import them.
- It has few prospects for economic development. Life here is drastically bleak.
- It is a Non-Aligned world dominated by human sophonts located in the Thorstone Subsector of Glimmerdrift Reaches Sector.

Mainworld Data[edit]
No information yet available.
Mainworld Size (S)[edit]
Shur is a Meso World between 5,600km and 7,200km in diameter. The world has low gravity between 0.32G and 0.46G. The horizon will appear about 3.6km away.
Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]
Shur has a pressure of 0.10 to 0.42 atmospheres. The very thin pressures require a respirator or Oxygen Mask. TL–5 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.
Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]
Shur has 25-35% of its surface covered by liquid water. It has a few small seas. Wilderness refueling is possible. Water for the inhabitants will be recycled.
Mainworld Geography & Topography[edit]
Shur is a small, cold world. Despite the thin atmosphere, it does have a reasonable ecosystem of its own, with many species of relatively primitive creatures. Life is more common in the shallow, cold seas than on land.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
Amunkhan occasionally sweeps the Shur system with units of its small but advanced navy, ignoring the routine protests issued by the Shur Planetary Government.
World Starport (Sp)[edit]
Shur has a Class C Starport, an average quality installation which features amenities including unrefined fuel for starships, some brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing maintenance and other kinds of repair. Ports of this classification generally have only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.
- The sprawling Downport is situated adjacent to the world's second-largest settlement, Karain City.
World Population (P)[edit]
Shur has a population of 1,000,000 sophonts (millions).
- This is a Nonindustrial World, too small to support the complete chain of production of most goods from start to finish.
World Demographics[edit]
- Humaniti, population 95%
- Other, population 5%
This society can trace its origins all the way back to a Rule of Man-era colony. Life support equipment is clunky but extremely robust.
World Languages[edit]
World Government (G)[edit]
Shur is governed by a Civil Service Bureaucracy. The leadership of the government takes another form (democracy, dictatorship, oligarchy), but the bureaucracy leadership influences policy. The government leadership may select the bureaucracy leadership, but not its membership. Usually the governmental leadership is divided, or incapable of setting policy, and the bureaucracy provides a stabilizing influence. This ruling bureaucracy may be the full government bureaucractic apparatus or a section with limited jurisdiction but considerable influence, like the military.
- Shur's government is noted for its complex, overly bureaucratic system whose myriad committees and sub-committees wrangle endlessly but never get much actual work done.
World Law Level (L)[edit]
Shur has a moderate law level with laws covering many areas of government and interaction. These laws are simple enough that most people can act as their own advocate, though for serious issues a professional is recommended. Law enforcement officials will be present, but not in great numbers. All firearms, and anything more destructive, are typically regulated or prohibited.
World Technology Level (TL)[edit]
Shur possesses a Technology Level of TL–6.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Telephone, radio, and television.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Early fission power generation, advanced water and wind generation of electricity.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land: Improved automobiles, early ATV's, and dedicated AFV's.
- Water: Amphibious vehicles, improved submersibles, and early SCUBA gear.
- Air: Early jet aircraft and rotorcraft VTOL's.
- Space: Early unmanned rocket delivery systems and early manned orbital rockets.
