Mk 41 Mod 0 class Torpedoa are guided projectiles designed to detonate near a target in order to inflict damage on it.
- It is a GUW classed weapon.
- It is a kind of Ship Equipment.
- It is a bay-launched weapon.
Description (Specifications)[edit]
The Mk 41 torpedo is a large guided Naval missile. It is designed to be launched from weapons bays, specially constructed vehicles, or surface facilities (usually referred to as missile silos). The payload compartment of a standard Mk 41, located in the nose, houses a powerful focused force warhead. This space can be easily reconfigured to hold custom payloads or nuclear devices.

Mk 41 Mod 0 Torpedo[edit]
A shipboard heavy missile manufactured at TL-9.
- It is rated as a 4G4 limited burn, radio and IR sensing, proximity detonator, high explosive focused force warhead missile.
No. | Category | Remarks |
---|---|---|
1. | Tonnage | The torpedo has an overall length of 2m, a maximum diameter of 0.533m, and a contained internal volume of approximately 0.045 Kiloliters (equivalent to slightly more than 0.003 starship Tons). It is built in a cylinder configuration and is constructed from lightweight alloys and composite materials. It is fully streamlined and has small airfoil surfaces, improving its atmospheric performance.
|
2. | Performance | The torpedo is fitted with a limited burn Solid Fuel Rocket propulsion system and can achieve a maximum of 4G acceleration. The exhaust outlets can be angled, allowing the vector to be adjusted during spaceflight.
|
3. | Electronics | The torpedo does not have an independent guidance system: it is controlled directly by the Gunner.
|
4. | Armament | The normal payload for the torpedo is a 20 kg Focused Force warhead.
|
5. | Defenses | The torpedo is unarmored and is not fitted with defensive systems. |
6. | Fuel System | The torpedo carries 64 kg of solid propellant. The fuel is segregated into 4 increments (burns), permitting the motors to be turned off and restarted if desired.
|
7. | Cost | The basic cost of the torpedo depends on the Tech Level at which it was manufactured.
The torpedo is a standard design. Detailed schematics and architectural plans are widely available and no design fee is chargeable. |
8. | Comments | The torpedo is usually contained within a bay launch chamber that has a length of 2.1m and a diameter of 0.54m. The housing includes integral test circuitry and the launch mechanism, consisting of containers of compressed gas that push the torpedo clear as the rocket motor ignites.
Different manufacturers give their torpedoes distinctive surface finishes, though flat dark gray is typical.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
The Mk 41 Mod 0 Torpedo is a large guided missile originally developed for service with the Imperial Navy. It is an older design and is no longer generally issued to front line units, though they are in use with Subsector and Planetary navies. The type is reliable, extremely durable, and can be easily modified to carry a variety of payloads.
The Mk 42 Recon Drone is a recon version of the Torpedo.
The Mk 41 originally appeared in the Trouble in the Spinward Marches (CT) Play By Email Campaign. The design presented in this article varies from the original specifications of the device used in that game.
