The Krait class Frigate is a TL–11 Frigate.

Description[edit]
The Krait class Frigate is a new design, built under contract for the Ras Tennol Forces. So far the trials and crew reactions have been less than enthusiastic. The partially streamlined close structure hull is very lightly armored. The weapon package is underwhelming. One of their only redeeming features, is their ability to be carried in place of the much more vicious Punisher class Light Battle Riders, aboard the Oni class Fleet Tenders, thus providing an extended range strike ability. This tactical concept is widely viewed as hopeful at best.
Basic Ship Characteristics[edit]
Following the Imperial Navy and IISS Universal Ship Profile and data, additional information is presented in the format shown here. The small craft factor indicates the number of squadrons (...of ten subcraft) carried on the ship. Tonnage on the universal ship profile is shown in kilotons (...thousands of tons) where necessary. | Basic Ship Characteristics [2] | ||
|---|---|---|
| No. | Category | Remarks |
| 1. | Tonnage | The Krait class is constructed using a 1,000 Ton hull built in a close structure configuration. The hull is partially streamlined, allowing wilderness gas giant refueling which is a fleet requirement.
|
| 2. | Crew | x27 personnel which includes the command pilot, navigator, 9 engineers, 1 medic, 2 gunners, and a section of 13 marines lead by a senior, non-commissioned officer.
Accommodations
Accessible areas of the hull are fitted with grav plates and inertial compensators and have full life support and environmental systems.
|
| 3. | Performance | The vessel mounts a Jump-2 drive, a Maneuver-3 drive, and a Power Plant-6, giving performance of Jump-2 and 3-G acceleration. The ship has an agility rating of 3. The internal fuel tankage is sufficient for two Jump-2s and gives the power plant 4 weeks duration.
|
| 4. | Electronics | Adjacent to the bridge is a Model/2 computer: no backup computer is installed.
|
| 5. | Hardpoints | x10 hardpoints. |
| 6. | Armament | The normal weapons fit-out for a Krait class is:
|
| 7. | Defenses | The hull is lightly plated, structurally reinforced, and built with secure bulkheads and compartments that give it a High Guard armor rating of 2. |
| 8. | Craft | Flight Section
|
| 9. | Fuel Treatment | The vessel has internal fuel tankage of 460 Tons.
|
| 10. | Cost | The basic cost of the vessel is MCr847.833
|
| 11. | Construction Time | 120 weeks as standard.
|
| 12. | Comments | Standard cargo capacity amounts to 1 Ton. |
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
The contract for the Krait class was to provide an inexpensive way to protect commerce, and to serve as an escort for merchant vessels. It is intended to discourage enemy commerce raiders and pirates. They are relatively inexpensive when purchased in bulk and are optimized for hunting small fast targets. The boarding party has no small craft and a pair of speeders can't really take and hold land. The particle accelerator bay is undersized and under powered, and struggles to penetrate armored hulls. The hull armor does little to reduce critical internal damage against vital systems, and only serves to provide a thinly veiled illusion of security. Procurement also failed to deliver a military grade software package, coupled with a civilian computer architecture, fire control sensor integration is often referred to as best guess tracking. The engineers, however rave that the mil spec power plant is a work of art, easily the best part of the whole ship. Critics counter that its contemporary, the much smaller Draper class Frigate is more than its match.
