Biskra is a preindustrial world with a moderate population of over a hundred million, but not yet a billion sophonts.

  • As a preindustrial world, this planet cannot yet manufacture enough high-technology resources to support a modern, star-faring society. Having to import most manufactured and high tech goods drives the price up for these items at this world.
  • This world is also the overall capital of an interstellar government with the massive extra trade and prestige associated with that role.
  • It is a member of the Old Worlds in the Reach Subsector of Crucis Margin Sector.
  • This world-system has a Naval Base, usually associated with military starships, which may be located on or off-world.

Mainworld Data[edit]

Mainworld Size (S)[edit]

Biskra is a Meso World between 7,200km and 8,800km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.4G and 0.57G. The horizon will appear about 4km away.

Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]

Biskra has a pressure of 1.50 to 2.49 atmospheres. While a Dense Atmosphere requires no survival gear this atmosphere also contains an unusual taint such as disease, a hazardous gas mix, pollutants, or sulfur compounds which requires the use of a Filter Mask. Some taints may require more protective equipment. TL–3 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.

Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]

Biskra has 25-35% of its surface covered by liquid water. It has a few small seas. Wilderness refueling is possible. Water for the inhabitants will be recycled.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

The capital of the Old Worlds is at Biskra, in an artificial city constructed at the North Pole. Although Biskra is Balkanized, all states owe allegiance to the central government and contribute to its running. Dissent is rather low, though internal politics are somewhat ponderous.

World Starport (Sp)[edit]

Biskra has a Class A Starport, an excellent quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and other kinds of repair, and construction of both starships and non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.

World Population (P)[edit]

Biskra has a population of 400,000,000 sophonts (hundreds of millions).

World Government (G)[edit]

Biskra has a Balkanized Government. There is no central world government. The world has several governments competing for control of the world. These may be allies, cooperating, competitors, or at war with each other.

World Military[edit]

This world has a nearby Naval Base, home to an Old Worlds Navy Battle Fleet.

World Law Level (L)[edit]

Biskra has a moderate level with laws covering many areas of government and interaction. These laws are simple enough that most people can act as their own advocate, though for serious issues a professional is recommended. Law enforcement officials will be present, but not in great numbers. All firearms except shotguns, and anything more destructive, are typically regulated or prohibited.

World Technology Level (TL)[edit]

Biskra possesses a Technology Level of TL–12 or TL-C in Hexadecimal Notation.
