History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
The Old Worlds or Old Worlds Republic was, with the possible exception of the Mercantile Concord, the first pocket empire to settle this region of space, starting nearly 3000 years ago. Today it is a somewhat decaying pocket empire that clings to its past glory.
Colonists deliberately distancing themselves from the Rule of Man made planetfall on four promising worlds, and worked hard to develop them. As soon as they could build their own starships, they colonized more worlds, and built up a navy in preparation for a possible attack by what they assumed would be expanding Rule of Man forces, destined to "catch up" to them eventually. This defensive position served them well during the Long Night. Conflicts with powers now vanished threatened to destroy their alliance, but the Old Worlders successfully outlasted their foes. By the time the Dawn came, the Old Worlds were a thriving interstellar polity with tenuous connections to the Galian Trade League and somewhat more reliable communications with the Hive Federation.
The Old Worlds has since taken upon itself the role of a regional police force. Many small warships patrol nearby space to protect commerce. Despite their status as a somewhat stagnant power, they are still noted for their tendency to arrogance.

Government & Politics (Leadership)[edit]
The Old Worlds Republic is characterized as having a high degree of centralization, which sets uniform policies that direct the entire multi-system state and disregards local/planetary differences. The Old Worlds Republic is usually classified as a Republic, a form of a Unitary State.
The capital of the Old Worlds Republic is located at Biskra.
Interstellar Relations[edit]
The Old Worlds retains a rivalry with the Katowice Conquest, whose power structure descends from breakaway Old Worlds forces. Since about 750 they have accepted one another's territory, and a series of joint declarations in the 800s made the border and the status of various worlds all but permanent. There is no official treaty, though, and they remain at odds.
Internal Politics[edit]
Dissent is rather low, though internal politics can be a somewhat lengthy affair, as there as multiple nations all contributing to the shared central government.
