Barker is a nonindustrial hellworld with a population struggling to survive in an inhospitable environment.
- Hellworlds often offer daily, and sometimes even hourly, life-threatening situations to their inhabitants. Survivors often form intense survival skills and tend to be grim realists.
- It requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society.
- It is a member of the Regency of Muirimi in the Zebylono Subsector of Iphigenaia Sector.
- This is a hot world, with a climate of high temperatures.
- A Prison World, exile camp, or prison camp for criminals or other exiles is located upon this world in addition to other points of interest.
- This world has an exploration base, which is similar to an Imperial Scout Base, capable of handling explorer personnel and exploratory starships.
- Its Naiurdu name is Barkur.
Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]
Barker is a binary star system.
- The primary is a turbulent yellow giant named Hanubal.
- The secondary is a red main sequence named Aluvak.

System Data[edit]
The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:
- The mainworld.
- x5 secondary rocky worlds.
- x3 gas giants.
Mainworld Data[edit]
The mainworld orbits within the primary star's Habitable Zone.
- It lies within the zones warmer inner H+ region
- It receives higher levels of stellar energy.
- The world orbits inside the stars Jump Shadow.
Mainworld Size (S)[edit]
Barker is a Meso World between 7,200km and 8,800km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.4G and 0.57G. The horizon will appear about 4km away.
Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]
Barker has an Exotic Atmosphere and possesses an unusual gas mix which requires the use of oxygen tanks, but protective suits not necessary, but are recommended. TL–8 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.
Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]
Barker has no free-standing water or ice on the surface. What little water or ice exists is heavily tainted with other substances, which makes it dangerous, corrosive, or toxic. Wilderness refueling isn't possible on this world. Water for the inhabitants needs to be imported and extensively recycled. These worlds are Hell Worlds.
Satellites[edit]
Barker retains two tiny planetoid moons.
Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]
No centrally held map of the world exists within AAB Library Data records.
- Locally, detailed maps may be available.
- Verified updated charts are constantly sought.
- Detailed survey data commands premium prices.
(Placeholder chart, exotic world.)
Native Lifeforms[edit]
Exotic native life occupying a few specialist ecological niches. Its metabolic functions help drive the process of atmospheric renewal.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
Barker is a prison planet, divided between relatively well developed Free Land, more primitive detention zones, and wilderness. Criminals are transported to the world from across the Regency.
- It has been settled for centuries.
- The resources of the system are being exploited.
A few organizations and private interests are active within the system.
- Commercial traffic is relatively frequent: ships occasionally arrive and depart.
- Commo regularly picks up signals and private chatter. Communications are in Naiurdu and Riftian Anglic.
- A number of commercial navigation beacons will be active.
- A few vessels may be operating among the other worlds and moons that make up the system.
The population are culturally Muirimi.
- The inhabitants can trace their origins back to the central Asian and Indian subcontinent regions of Terra.
- It is a member world of the Regency of Muirimi.
The world formed part of an ancient Muirimi state called the Pietten Confederation.
- The Confederation practiced a harsh form of Sitaraism that placed many restrictions on its followers.
- The polity was considered belligerent and frequently had disputes with its neighbors, particularly the Republic of Georgia.
- Despite fervent internal protest, the Confederation and its member worlds chose to join the Regency upon its formation.
Its Naiurdu name is Barkur, a traditional place name originating on Terra.
Note that social data, though only 40 years old, may be out of date.
- Verified updated data is constantly sought.
World Starport (St)[edit]
Barker has a Class C Starport, an average quality installation which includes amenities including unrefined fuel for starships, some brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing maintenance and other kinds of repair. Ports of this classification generally have only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.
- Access to the starport is restricted. All vessels are subjected to extensive searches on arrival and before departure.
World Population (P)[edit]
Barker has a population of 900,000 sophonts (hundreds of thousands).
- This is a Nonindustrial World, too small to support the complete chain of production of most goods from start to finish.
- There are around 750,000 prisoners and detainees.
- There are around 150,000 security officers, staff, technicians, employees, support personnel, and their dependents.
Urbanization[edit]
A few large urban centers are surrounded by smaller satellite communities.
- Small inhabited regions are dotted across the world.
- Structures and facilities are sealed against local environmental conditions.
- Much of the surface of the world remains as wilderness.
World Technology Level (T)[edit]
Barker possesses a Technology Level of TL–10 or TL-A in Hexadecimal Notation.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Holovision, Personal Global Communications, and advanced Translators.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Increasingly advanced fusion plants and advanced fuel cells.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land & Water: Grav belts and maturing gravcraft.
- Air: Greatly improved hybrid grav-aircraft.
- Space: Improved interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).
- FTL: Jump Drive-1.
- While the port and prison buildings are around TL–10, the prisoners exist at closer to TL–5 or TL–6.
World Government (G)[edit]
Barker has a Captive Government or Colony. The world is ruled by an external government, there is no self-rule. A colony or conquered area. The local government is an oligarchy appointed by, and answerable only to, the external government.
- The world's government is operated as part of the prison service. The world has a Governor.
World Military[edit]
All armed forces on the world are privately hired prison guards. They function as military units.
World Law (L)[edit]
Barker has a moderate level with laws covering many areas of government and interaction. These laws are simple enough that most people can act as their own advocate, though for serious issues a professional is recommended. Law enforcement officials will be present, but not in great numbers. All firearms except shotguns, and anything more destructive, are typically regulated or prohibited.
- Open possession of weapons is forbidden, but guards often turn a blind eye to blades or similar "tools".
- Prisoners are usually left to settle their own differences.
Trade Data[edit]
- Importance: 0 (unimportant)
World Economy[edit]
- Resources: 8 (moderate)
- Labor: 4 (tens of thousands)
- Infrastructure: 6 (limited)
- Efficiency: -4 (very poor)
World Culture[edit]
- Homogeneity: 3 (monolithic)
- Acceptance: 5 (very aloof)
- Strangeness: 9 (extremely confusing)
- Symbols: 8 (somewhat abstract)
