Aquaria is a nonindustrial water world, which has 90% or more of its surface covered in an ocean of water.
- The inhabitants of this world live on the roughly 10% of exposed land mass, in underwater colonies, on city ships, or similar arrangements.
- As a nonindustrial world, it requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. The need to import most manufactured and high technology goods drives the price of these goods up in the open market.
- It is a Non-Aligned world dominated by human sophonts located in the Aquaria Subsector of Fulani Sector.
- This is a temperate world, with a climate of pleasant, average temperatures, considered to be an ideal or near-ideal environment by many different sophont species.
- It is a member of the Fulani Main.
Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]
Stellar Data[edit]
Aquaria has a solitary primary star.
- It is an orange main sequence.
System Data[edit]
The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:
- The mainworld.
- x6 secondary rocky worlds.
- x1 planetoid belt.
- x3 gas giants.
Mainworld Data[edit]
The mainworld orbits within the star's Habitable Zone.
- It lies within the zones prime H region.
- It receives moderate levels of stellar energy.
- The world orbits inside the stars Jump Shadow.
Mainworld Size (S)[edit]
Aquaria is a Meso World between 12,000km and 13,500km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.8G and 1.1G. The horizon will appear about 5.1km away. Vessels with 1G of thrust should check with local starport authorities before attempting to land using emergency power.
Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]
Aquaria has a pressure of 1.50 to 2.49 atmospheres. While a Dense Atmosphere requires no survival gear this atmosphere also contains an unusual taint such as such as disease, a hazardous gas mix, pollutants, or sulfur compounds which requires the use of a Filter Mask. Some taints may require more protective equipment. TL–3 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.
Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]
Aquaria has 95-100% of its surface covered by liquid water with only a few islands and archipelagos. Wilderness refueling is possible. Such worlds are Water Worlds or Ocean Worlds.
- The vast oceans are storm-wracked and turbulent.
Satellites[edit]
Aquaria retains two small vacuum moons.
- The worlds orbit once every few weeks.
Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]
No centrally held map of the world exists within AAB Library Data records.
- Locally, detailed maps may be available.
- Verified updated charts are constantly sought.
- Detailed survey data commands premium prices.
(Placeholder chart, predominantly watery world.)
Native Lifeforms[edit]
Abundant aquatic native life occupying every available ecological niche. Its metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
Aquaria is a quiet backwater with a weak economy, though its denizens enjoy an acceptable standard of living.
- The system has been settled for centuries.
- The resources of the system are being exploited.
A number of businesses, organizations, and private interests are active within the system.
- Commercial traffic is sporadic: ships occasionally visit.
- Commo is filled with signals and private chatter. Communications are in Riftian Anglic.
- A single commercial navigation beacon may be active.
- Vessels rarely operate among the other worlds and moons that make up the system.
Note that social data, though only 40 years old, may be out of date.
- Verified updated data is constantly sought.
World Starport (St)[edit]
Aquaria has a Class E Starport, a frontier quality installation with few expected amenities. There is unrefined fuel for starships and a limited variety of ship provisions. There is no shipyard of any kind, but there may be parts and technical support for doing minor services and repair. Ports of this classification generally consist of a downport.
World Population (P)[edit]
Aquaria has a population of 30,000 sophonts (tens of thousands).
- This is a Nonindustrial World, too small to support the complete chain of production of most goods from start to finish.
Urbanization[edit]
A central urban area, located on the largest island in a long archipelago, surrounded by smaller satellite communities.
- A few isolated structures and compounds are located on outlying islands.
- Almost all of the surface of the world is ocean wilderness.
World Technology Level (T)[edit]
Aquaria possesses a Technology Level of TL–8.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Fiber optics, improved telephones, and satellite communication and data networks.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Improved geothermal and improved batteries.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land: Advanced automobiles.
- Water: Triphibians and early artificial gills.
- Air: Improved helicopters and hypersonic jets.
- Space: Space shuttles, early space stations, and improved interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).
World Government (G)[edit]
Aquaria is governed by Self-Perpetuating Oligarchy. A single family or small group provides the leadership and important positions in the government. These positions are inherited by member of the group or their family members. The organization may be monarchy, with titles passed to family members. Or a plutocracy where inheritance of the family fortune includes government position. Or the organization may be more typical organization with positions of power inherited.
World Military[edit]
Approximately 100 personnel.
World Law (L)[edit]
Aquaria has a low law level. There are few laws, covering only important areas. There may be few or no law enforcement officers, the expectation is citizens will bring law breakers to the attention of the Judicial system. Legal proceedings will be fast, with few people involved. For interactions outside of the framework of the laws, cultural norms dominate. Portable energy weapons, body pistols, explosives, and poison gas are typically regulated or prohibited.
Trade Data[edit]
- Importance: -3 (very unimportant)
The economy of the world is based around fishing and aquaculture.
World Economy[edit]
- Resources: 7 (few)
- Labor: 3 (thousands)
- Infrastructure: 1 (extremely limited)
- Efficiency: -5 (extremely poor)
World Culture[edit]
- Homogeneity: 8 (discordant)
- Acceptance: 1 (extremely xenophobic)
- Strangeness: 4 (somewhat distinct)
- Symbols: 5 (concrete)
