Wypoc is a nonindustrial fluid world.
- A fluid world has an oceanic geography consisting of heavily contaminated water or a substance such as ammonia, methane, hydrocarbons, or other exotic liquid.
- It requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. Having to import most manufactured and high tech goods drives the price up for these items at this world.
- It is a member of the Third Imperium in the Lanth Subsector of Spinward Marches Sector in the Domain of Deneb.
- This dangerous world is designated an Amber Zone with an environment, laws, customs, life forms, or other conditions that make it dangerous to visitors.
- Wypoc is a member of the Spinward Main.
Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]
Stellar Data[edit]
Wypoc has a solitary primary star.
- It is a red main sequence.
System Data[edit]
The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:
- The mainworld.
- x4 secondary rocky worlds.
- x2 planetoid belts.
- x2 gas giants.
Mainworld Data[edit]
Wypoc is a hostile world, best noted for being only jump 2 from Regina. Despite its hellish environment it is a noted tourist destination.
It orbits within its star's habitable zone.
- It receives moderate levels of stellar energy.
Mainworld Size (S)[edit]
Wypoc is a Big World between 13,600km and 15,200km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 1G and 1.3G. The horizon will appear about 5.4km away. Vessels with only 1G of thrust should avoid landing on this world.
- Wypoc has a mean equatorial diameter of 14,570 km according to the 1066 Second Survey, although specific accuracy is questionable. Local gravity is 1.3 G's standard, with local variation of up to 0.05 G's. The core is molten nickle/iron, with a dense silicate crust.
Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]
Wypoc has an Insidious Atmosphere which requires the use of a Hostile Environment Suit or Vacc Suit, but extreme conditions cause the corrosive effects to defeat any personal protective measures in a few hours. TL–10 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.
The atmosphere of Wypoc is an insidious mix of hydrofluoric, hydrochloric, and sulfuric acids, plus a small amount of prussic acid is also present. Atmospheric pressure at surface is about 2.5 atm, and the orangeish haze is ever present, resulting in a notable lack of visibility.
- Standard vacuum suits will be irreparably damaged within 4 hours, and experience lethal failures within 8 hours, due to the combination of acids, high-speed sand, and temperature.
Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]
Wypoc has no free-standing fluids on the surface. What little surface fluid exists consists of exotic substances that are corrosive and highly toxic. Wilderness refueling isn't possible on this world. Water for the inhabitants needs to be imported and extensively recycled. These worlds are Hell Worlds.
The liquid which passes for an ocean is a rich soup of amino acids, plus some of the acids noted in the atmospheric composition, above. The amino acids and proteins of Wypoc's life, however, are definitely incompatible with H. Sapiens, and also with Vargr, digestive capabilities. This hydrosphere has a major problem for life: most of the proteins are immediately broken apart by one or more of the available acids.
Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]
No centrally held map of the world exists within AAB Library Data records.
Native Lifeforms[edit]
Abundant exotic native life occupying every available ecological niche. Its metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal.
Dragons of Wypoc
The world has become a mecca for jaded individuals desiring a real challenge: hunting the Dragons of Wypoc, the collective term for a range of creatures native to the world. A wide variety of large, armored, dangerous beasts run free and wild, and are known to actively hunt humans when they encounter them. Some have even claimed that air-rafts have been dragon-snacks! Known species include the Pen-jooin, the Wypoc Dragon, the Bopper, and other large creatures, all members of a thriving ecosystem. Apparently, the predators hunt by metallic ions released by the bodies of their targets.
- Certain parts of some local creatures are edible, provided they are prepared properly, but are not particularly tasty.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
Wypoc is a Danger World and is designated as an Amber Zone. It presents particular risks and dangers due to the environment or native life forms, laws or customs, or other conditions that are not well understood.
- Visitors are advised to act with caution.
In 1106 a small Imperial Navy facility was established to test hostile-environment equipment. The inhabitants live in domed cities they call demes and rarely venture outside. Recently, however, the military (Imperial Marines) has been testing protective suits which will enable personnel to operate in the insidious and freezing atmosphere for long periods. There is a large marine contingent on the world and the local economy is doing quite well.
There has been some mention in the local media that the Imperial Marines have been there longer than one would think necessary to just test vacc suits and none of the suits have been made available to the locals.
World Starport (St)[edit]
Wypoc has a Class E Starport, a frontier quality installation with few expected amenities. There is unrefined fuel for starships and a limited variety of ship provisions. There is no shipyard of any kind, but there may be parts and technical support for doing minor services and repair. Ports of this classification generally consist of a downport.
- The world is host to a small secure Imperial facility.
World Population (P)[edit]
Wypoc has a population of 900,000 sophonts (hundreds of thousands).
- This is a Nonindustrial World, too small to support the complete chain of production of most goods from start to finish.
Urbanization[edit]
The local inhabitants live in domed cities and rarely venture outside.
Linguistic Topography[edit]
The most commonly heard languages are:
- Riftian Galanglic, one of the principal dialects of one of the two official languages of the Imperium.
- Vilani, one of the two official languages of the Imperium.
World Technology Level (T)[edit]
Wypoc possesses a Technology Level of TL–9.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Fiber optics and satellite communication and data networks.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Early fusion power.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land: Ultra high-speed trains and early grav vehicles.
- Water: High efficiency sailcraft, multihulled seacraft, improved artificial gills.
- Air: Tiltrotorcraft, exotic VTOL's, PARWIG, and rocket-assisted suborbitals.
- Space: SSTO spacecraft, early military spacecraft (System Craft), and interstellar STL starships
- FTL: Prototype Jump Drive-1.
World Government (G)[edit]
Wypoc is governed by a Representative Democracy where government leadership is by representatives elected by eligible voters. What determines an eligible voter varies. The representatives determine policy, including selecting members of the bureaucracy. There can be referenda, votes by eligible voters on specific subjects.
World Law (L)[edit]
Wypoc has a moderate law level with laws covering many areas of government and interaction. These laws are simple enough that most people can act as their own advocate, though for serious issues a professional is recommended. Law enforcement officials will be present, but not in great numbers. All firearms, and anything more destructive, are typically regulated or prohibited.
Imperial Landed Nobility[edit]
Wypoc, as a member world of the Third Imperium has a member of the Imperial Landed Nobility who acts as an Imperial representative to the world.
Trade Data[edit]
- Importance: -2 (very unimportant)
World Economy[edit]
- Resources: B (abundant)
- Labor: 4 (tens of thousands)
- Infrastructure: 2 (extremely limited)
- Efficiency: -2 (fair)
The economy is focused around three major activities: mining minerals and resources on the surface, orbital manufacture, particularly of electronic components and devices, and Expedition hunting in pursuit of the world's exotic native life.
World Culture[edit]
- Heterogenity: 5 (harmonious)
- Acceptance: 3 (xenophobic)
- Strangeness: 5 (distinct)
- Symbols: 9 (somewhat abstract)
