History & Background[edit]

Historical Eras[edit]

Major Historical Events Timeline[edit]

The worlds of Atsah subsector, which was originally designated District 168, were explored and settled largely between 60 and 200. The subsector was formed quickly out of the Atsak Federation, a failing Vargr state centered on the world Atsah. After a show of appropriate Imperial military strength and cunning, each world was ceded to a separate Vargr Enclave warlord, with the exception of Atsah, which was claimed for the ‘Imperial’ warlord, the Emperor, who ruled by proxy through his Duke. In 200 Atsah subsector was admitted into the Third Imperium despite the fact that the Enclave warlords swear fealty to the Imperial Duke not in his position as Duke but as leader of the heads of the Vargr Enclaves.

The Duchy of Atsah is a strong duchy that exerts overwhelming influence in Million Subsector and has significant involvement in Corridor politics. The Duke of Atsah in 1105, a Vargr named Douzkhozkaegag, has the rare privilege of being the warlord of the Adadh Clan, which made Atadl (Deneb 3015) his personal fief, while also being the brother-in-law of the warlord of the Segae Clan, whose fief was Segan.

The 11 Vargr worlds that had once been part of the Atsak Federation now comprise the Atsah Cultural Region at the core of Atsah Subsector. Most people view all these worlds as Imperial, despite the technical legality that they are not[1]. The Region is made up of pro-Imperial Vargr, who are easily recruited to serve with regular Vargr on patrols and diplomatic missions. Allegiances in these Vargr states shift constantly, and each time a world’s government changes, so does its status within the Imperium.

Atsah maintains a Jump Bridge on a single, very large ice asteroid in Hex 2814. This links 10 worlds in Dunmag and Atsah subsectors with a jump-1 Main which begins in Trailing Atsah and runs throughout the Ian and Khouth subsectors in Corridor. In total this main contains 21 systems in Deneb and another 20 worlds in Corridor.

By the Regency era, almost the entire subsector lies outside the area of protection. Only two worlds Erita (Deneb 2519) and Kiirindor (Deneb 2520) remain in the Regency Frontier. These two worlds are incorporated into Regency Quarantine District 4. As part of RQ4, these worlds are defended by the 183rd Fleet, headquartered at Usani (Deneb 2225). [2]

Region of Trailing Deneb contained within the Wilds. Formerly settled and controlled by the Third Imperium. Like its neighbor Million Subsector, Atsah was underdeveloped, as most of its economy supported the Midway trade routes moving out of Corridor Sector to the far corners of the Domain of Deneb. Economically the subsector was dominated by the high population world of Atadl (Deneb 3015), but the majority of its worlds were lightly populated worlds hosting a mixture of agricultural and trade related industries.

The subsector was severely damaged by the attacks of the Dzarrgh Federate, which captured several worlds in 1116, and which helped to severe the Domain of Deneb's ties to the rest of the Third Imperium. Several worlds were granted independence by the Domain of Deneb in an effort to create a buffer region with the Vargr states of Corridor. The Abandonment depleted the subsector during the Collapse, and few of its worlds are that heavily populated. While many systems have fallen under primitive strongman dominated feudal states, sporadic contact with the Regency military and RQS has kept cultural ties strong, and planners expect little resistance in the subsector to resurgent repopulation.
