The Cronor Subsector lies at the extreme spinward reach of the Imperial frontier, and has long been a point of friction between the Imperium and the Zhodani Consulate. The Second Frontier War (615-620) began with an attack on the then Imperial subsector capital of Cipango and then exploded to engulf three subsectors. Ultimately, the Cronor subsector was lost as a result of the war, and the borders established have remained to this day. Zhodani ascendance in this subsector is a relatively recent event, and only over the past century have the worlds off the major courier routes been consolidated into the mainstream of Zhodani society. Incursions which have collectively been called the Fourth Frontier War (1082-1084) resulted in some realignment of accepted boundaries, but in no real gains for either side.

The Zhodani have placed their capital at Cronor, a jump route and postal route nexus with important ties to Jewell and Querion Subsectors. Away from established jump lanes, the sparse population of the subsector has resisted domination, although only in a passive vein.

The Imperium has maintained a tenuous naval base at Quar since 1083.

The Cronor subsector contains 24 worlds and a population of 3.682 billion. The highest population level is 9, at Cronor; the highest tech level is D, at Cronor. All worlds in this subsector should be treated as Amber by Imperial citizens.

Cronor Subsector has seen only a few minor changes since 1132. While immigration has swelled the local population, no mechanism exists to permit the kind of government changes seen in the Regency. One interesting development, however, has been the annexation of unassimilated Non-Zhodani systems, including several former Imperial colonies that were conquered during the Second and Third Frontier Wars. Worlds like Narval and Whenge have retained their culture with little or no interference by the Zhodani Tavrchedle'. No one in the Regency, at least publicly, admits knowing or understanding the reasons for this permissiveness and the situation has been watched very closely by the Regency Trinity and other intelligence services. Unlike many Zhodani border subsectors, Cronor has shown a willingness to trade with its neighbors, perhaps because of the locals accustomization with Non-Zhodani. Unfortunately that openness has attracted billions of ragged, scared Zhodani refugees fleeing the inexplicable situation in the Zhodani Core and has swamped its worlds with hungry and unemployed Proles that are draining the subsector in terms of resources and social peace.
