Whenge is an agricultural world with an ideal environment for producing food from plants, animals, or other lifeforms. The system has a population between 100,000 and 10 million sophonts. It is a Human dominated Non-Aligned world in the Cronor Subsector of Spinward Marches Sector.
- It is considered to lie within the Cronor Cleft.
Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]
Stellar Data[edit]
Whenge has a solitary primary star.
- It is a white main sequence.
System Data[edit]
The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:
- The mainworld.
- x11 secondary rocky worlds.
- x1 planetoid belt.
Mainworld Data[edit]
Because of its astrographic location astride the Cronor Cleft, Whenge is part of a roundabout J-2 route for Zhodani ships passing between Consulate space to Rimward and the five worlds clustered around Cipango (Spinward Marches 0705) to Trailing.
It orbits within its star's habitable zone.
- It receives moderate levels of stellar energy.
Mainworld Size (S)[edit]
Whenge is a Meso World between 8,800km and 10,400km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.6G and 0.8G. The horizon will appear about 4.4km away.
Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]
Whenge has a pressure of 0.43 to 0.70 atmospheres. While the thin atmosphere does not require survival gear this atmosphere also contains an unusual taint such as disease, a hazardous gas mix, pollutants, or sulfur compounds which requires the use of a Filter Mask. Some taints may require more protective equipment. TL–3 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.
Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]
Whenge has 75-85% of its surface covered by liquid water with a few large continents and extensive islands. Wilderness refueling is possible.
Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]
No centrally held map of the world exists within AAB Library Data records.
(Blank map, predominantly watery world.)
IISS GURPS Astrographics Survey[edit]
0503 Whenge (Zhodani)
Starport: Class II.
Diameter: 6,224 miles (10,000 km).
Atmosphere: Thin, oxygen-nitrogen tainted by industrial pollutants.
Hydrographics: 80%.
Climate: Cool.
Population: 500,000.
Government: Tribal/family society approaching anarchy.
Control Level: 0.
Tech Level: 8.
World Trade Number: 3.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
The mainworld was a poor, desperate colonial remnant of the Rule of Man. Ecological degradation and intercommunal violence reduced the planet to ruined anarchy and it was partially interdicted by the Zhodani Navy.
The system is considered part of the Cronor Cleft, a small but strategically important rift dominating the central part of Chronor Subsector. The interstellar medium - the ephemeral gas and dust that fills the empty space between star systems – is significantly less dense in the region around Whenge. This lower density area is broadly spherical, with a diameter of around 2.5 parsecs and with Whenge's white primary star roughly at its center. It is sometimes referred to as the Whenge Bubble.
History-Era: New Era[edit]
The sudden expansion of trade with the Regency, and a need for a shortcut across the Cronor Cleft, compelled the subsector council to open the world to development. Initially the local tribes were hostile to the community growing out of the new downport, but have been enticed out of their own communities by off world trade. Persons of Solomani-Zhodani descent is the most rapidly growing segment of the population.
