Description (Specifications)[edit]
These TL–12 vessels are being tested as a possible replacement for the Galiar class Light Cruiser. They are more heavily armored but lack the ship killing fire power of the spinal mounted particle accelerator. They are larger, and more agile than their brethren. They have a small suite of lowberths for prisoners or severely wounded. The 15 ton cargo hold is usually packed with additional life support to prolong siege and patrol missions. The four smaller missile bays can be pressed into service for ortillery support and shore bombardment. They lack the redundant computer of their predecessor as well. They have a smaller crew complement despite being larger and are all around better protected.

Basic Ship Characteristics[edit]
Following the Imperial Navy and IISS Universal Ship Profile and data, additional information is presented in the format shown here. The small craft factor indicates the number of squadrons (...of ten subcraft) carried on the ship. Tonnage on the universal ship profile is shown in kilotons (...thousands of tons) where necessary. | Basic Ship Characteristics [2] | ||
|---|---|---|
| No. | Category | Remarks |
| 1. | Tonnage / Hull | 23,400 tons (standard), 327,600 cubic meters. Partially streamlined close structure hulls. |
| 2. | Crew | 209 with 35 marines. 12 command, 61 engineering, 49 gunnery, 5 flight, and 47 services. There are 107.5 double occupancy staterooms. |
| 3. | Performance | Jump-2, 2-G acceleration. Power plant-6. 1,404 EP. Agility-2. They carry enough fuel, internally for two jumps. This gives them jump 2 strike range with enough for a strategic withdrawal. They can carry drop tanks with 28 days of power plant fuel and an additional jump 2 as needed. They are capable of 2 G acceleration and have agility rating 2. |
| 4. | Electronics | A Model 6 fib computer is mounted adjacent to the bridge. |
| 5. | Hardpoints | 234 hardpoints. |
| 6. | Armament | Four 50 ton missile bays, four 100 ton particle accelerator bays, twelve dual fusion gun turrets, 120 triple beam laser turrets. |
| 7. | Defenses | The defenses include factor 8 Armor, one 100 ton repulsor bay, twelve triple sand caster turrets. |
| 8. | Craft | 2 x 4T Air Rafts, 2 x 30T Long Boats. |

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
There is one prototype in service. Designed and built at Jaradin for the Unity of Sed. These ships operate within the Far Home Sector. There are in service with the Unity of Sed Navy. This design represents a departure from the single big gun philosophy of the spinal armed vessels. These are seen as a more multi-role vessel. There weapons are more defensive and the much thicker hull armor is an indication of avoiding the glass cannon dilemma of some other designs. The admiralty is concerned but the increased irregular size, the expanded cost, delays in delivery and lack of firepower for a ship of the line. The marine platoon was expanded with the addition of nine pathfinders who conduct reentry and survey landing zones of the follow on platoon. They are the only Drop Capsule equipped marines on the vessel.
Distant Fringe Vessels[edit]
The Distant Fringe is said to be a far trailing-rimward area inhabited by colonists and refugees originating on Terra. The region is extremely isolated, separated from the rest of Charted Space by vast, almost uncrossable rifts that were once broached by a system of calibration Points and the use of tankers. Those few academics within Charted Space who have found references to the Distant Fringe regard it as little more than a tall tale. Likewise, many of the inhabitants of the Distant Fringe believe the existence of Charted Space to be mythical.[3]
Vessels originating within the Distant Fringe are very rarely encountered outside of the region. However, misjumps do occur and anomalies with bizarre spacetime and Jumpspace effects exist: as such, craft of this type are not entirely unknown within Charted Space.[4]
Class Naming Practice/s & Peculiarities[edit]
Each vessel within the class is named by the government of the state that produces it. They generally draw on traditional naming protocols and it is not uncommon for a historical class name to be reused.
- Individual vessels within the class are issued specific serial numbers and transponder codes.
- Naming a ship is considered a serious affair and is generally accompanied by a traditional ceremony, usually pouring a local beverage over the bows of the craft. Starfarers tend to be superstitious folk and a ship with a frivolous name is considered "unlucky".
