Saosin is a poor, nonindustrial world.

  • As a nonindustrial world, it requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. The need to import most manufactured and high technology goods drives the price of these goods up in the open market.
  • This world has few prospects for economic development.
  • It is a Non-Aligned world dominated by human sophonts located in the Vanguard Subsector of Fulani Sector.

Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]

Stellar Data[edit]

Saosin is a binary star system.

  • The primary is an orange main sequence.
  • The secondary is a brown dwarf substellar object.
Saosin has two stars in the star system.

System Data[edit]

The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:

Mainworld Data[edit]

The mainworld orbits within the star's Habitable Zone.

  • It lies within the zone's colder outer H- region.
  • It receives relatively low levels of stellar energy.

Mainworld Size (S)[edit]

Saosin is a Small World between 4,000km and 5,600km in diameter. The world has low gravity between 0.24G and 0.34G. The horizon will appear about 3km away.

Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]

Saosin has a pressure of 0.43 to 0.70 atmospheres. The Thin Atmosphere does not require survival gear although it may be hard on sophonts not accustomed to it.

Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]

Saosin has 05-15% of its surface covered by liquid water or ice. Wilderness refueling will be difficult. Water for the inhabitants needs to be imported and extensively recycled. These worlds are Hell Worlds or Poor Worlds depending on their atmosphere.

  • Much of the surface is an arid, hostile environment.

Satellites:[edit]

Saosin retains two small vacuum moons.

  • The worlds orbit once every few weeks.

Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]

No centrally held map of the world exists within AAB Library Data records.

  • Locally, detailed maps may be available.
  • Verified updated charts are constantly sought.
  • Detailed survey data commands premium prices.

Native Lifeforms[edit]

Primitive native life occupying a number of ecological niches. Its metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

Comp-Prog-Dav-R-Deitrick-Starter-Trav-Page-16 16-July-2018a.jpg

Saosin is relatively quiet, with limited development, a stable economy, and acceptable standards of living.

  • The resources of the mainworld are being exploited.

There is little activity within the system.

  • Commercial traffic is sporadic: ships occasionally visit.
  • Commo is filled with signals and private chatter. Communications are in Riftian Anglic.
  • A number of commercial navigation beacons will be active.
  • Vessels rarely operate among the other worlds and moons that make up the system.

Note that social data, though only 40 years old, may be out of date.

  • Verified updated data is constantly sought.

World Starport (St)[edit]

Saosin has a Class C Starport, an average quality installation which features amenities including unrefined fuel for starships, some brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing maintenance and other kinds of repair. Ports of this classification generally have only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.

World Demographics (P)[edit]

Saosin has a population of 200,000.

Urbanization[edit]

A single large urban center is surrounded by smaller satellite communities.

  • The population are concentrated into a single relatively densely populated region.
  • Most of the surface of the world remains as wilderness.

World Technology Level (T)[edit]

Saosin possesses a Technology Level of TL–5.

World Government (G)[edit]

Saosin is governed by a Charismatic Dictatorship. Charismatic governments justify their ability to rule by simply asserting their right to rule. Charismatic dictatorships are typically young governments, coming as a recent change, and rely on the leader(s) to supply head of government.

World Military[edit]

Approximately 1000 personnel.

World Law (L)[edit]

Saosin has an extreme law level which covers every area of interaction. Laws are complex, detailed, and difficult to understand. Every interaction with the government requires an Advocate. Law enforcement is omnipresent and strict. Legal proceeding can take months to years to resolve and may involve dozens of people. A world with this law level may be an Amber Zone or a Red Zone. All objects specifically manufactured as weapons are typically regulated or prohibited (with no exception for private residences; visiting starships are only protected so long as they stay within designated starports and approach corridors). Civilian movement is rigidly controlled. Travel documents are frequently checked. There is no legal concept of privacy (save for those who can claim necessity for official government business). The police are free to inspect anyone and anything at any time.

World Economy[edit]

  • Resources: 8 (moderate)
  • Labor: 4 (tens of thousands)
  • Infrastructure: 2 (extremely limited)
  • Efficiency: -2 (fair)

Trade Data[edit]

  • Importance: -2 (very unimportant)

World Culture[edit]

  • Homogeneity: 2 (monolithic)
  • Acceptance: 3 (xenophobic)
  • Strangeness: 9 (extremely confusing)
  • Symbols: 4 (concrete)
