Ratan is a high-population world with a billion or more sophonts in population size.

Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]

Stellar Data[edit]

Ratan is a trinary star system, consisting of a solitary primary star and a binary pair of red stars lying around 250 AU distant.

  • The primary is a yellow main sequence named Parl.
  • The secondary is a red main sequence.
  • The tertiary is a red main sequence.
Ratan has three stars in the star system.

System Data[edit]

The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:

Mainworld Data[edit]

The mainworld orbits within the star's Habitable Zone.

  • It lies within the zones prime H region.
  • It receives moderate levels of stellar energy.

Mainworld Size (S)[edit]

Ratan is a Meso World between 10,400km and 12,000km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.7G and 0.9G. The horizon will appear about 4.7km away.

Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]

Ratan has a pressure of 0.10 to 0.42 atmospheres. The very thin pressures require a respirator or Oxygen Mask. TL–5 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.

Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]

Ratan has 65-75% of its surface covered by liquid water. It has significant large liquid bodies. Wilderness refueling is possible.

Satellites:[edit]

Ratan retains a small, relatively close, very thin atmosphere moon.

  • It orbits once every few days.

Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]

No centrally held map of the world exists within AAB Library Data records.

  • Locally, detailed maps may be available.
  • Verified updated charts are constantly sought.
  • Detailed survey data commands premium prices.

Native Lifeforms[edit]

Primitive native life occupying a number of ecological niches. Its metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

Ratan has a very large population, a strong industrial base, and huge reserves of natural resources. It is a thriving world and a major commercial center.

  • The resources of the system are being heavily exploited.

Various businesses, organizations, and private interests are active within the system.

  • Commercial traffic is heavy: ships regularly arrive and depart.
  • Commo picks up constant signals and private chatter. Communications are in Riftian Anglic.
    • Signals and interference are generated by the secondary and tertiary stars.
  • A number of commercial navigation beacons are active.
  • A number of vessels will be operating among the other worlds and moons that make up the system.

World Starport (St)[edit]

Ratan has a Class B Starport, a good quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and most kinds of repair, and construction of non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.

World Demographics (P)[edit]

Ratan has a population of 70 billion.

Urbanization[edit]

Sprawling megacities, towering arcologies, and large satellite communities cover the surface.

  • Cities are located across the world.
  • Structures and facilities are sealed against local environmental conditions.
  • Hyperloop and mavlev networks connect the cities.
  • Regional centers may have their own starports.
  • A few regions of the surface of the world remain as wilderness.

World Technology Level (T)[edit]

Ratan possesses a Technology Level of TL–10 or TL-A in Hexadecimal Notation.

World Government (G)[edit]

Ratan is governed by an Impersonal Bureaucracy. The leadership of the government takes another form (democracy, dictatorship, oligarchy), but the bureaucracy dictates government policy and its execution. Government leadership is reduced to little more than figureheads and does not select the bureaucracy leadership or its members.

World Military[edit]

Approximately 170 million personnel.

World Law (L)[edit]

Ratan has a moderate level with laws covering many areas of government and interaction. These laws are simple enough that most people can act as their own advocate, though for serious issues a professional is recommended. Law enforcement officials will be present, but not in great numbers. All firearms except shotguns, and anything more destructive, are typically regulated or prohibited.

World Economy[edit]

  • Resources: G (extremely abundant)
  • Labor: 9 (billions)
  • Infrastructure: D (comprehensive)
  • Efficiency: +2 (good)

Trade Data[edit]

  • Importance: 3 (ordinary)

World Culture[edit]

  • Homogeneity: 9 (discordant)
  • Acceptance: D (very xenophilic)
  • Strangeness: 4 (somewhat distinct)
