Pebble is a poor, nonindustrial desert hellworld with a population struggling to survive in an inhospitable environment.

  • Hellworlds often offer daily, and sometimes hourly, life-threatening situations to their inhabitants. Survivors often develop intense survival skills and tend to be grim realists.
  • This world has no free-standing water.
  • It requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. Having to import most manufactured and high tech goods drives the price up for these items at this world.
  • It is a Non-Aligned world dominated by the Mavuzo, a sophont minor race, located in the Mavuzo Subsector of Mavuzog Sector.
  • This is a temperate world, with a climate of pleasant, average temperatures, considered to be an ideal or near-ideal environment by many different sophont species.
  • This world-system has a Naval Base, usually associated with military starships, which may be located on or off-world.
  • 100% of the population is composed of Mavuzo.

Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]

Stellar Data[edit]

Pebble is a binary star system.

  • Both are red main sequence stars.
Pebble has two stars in the star system.

System Data[edit]

The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:

Mainworld Data[edit]

Pebble has a slow rotation period: one local day is equivalent to 11.5 standard days (roughly 275 standard hours).[2]

It orbits within the prime region of the primary star's habitable zone.

Mainworld Size (S)[edit]

Pebble is a Small World between 4,000km and 5,600km in diameter. The world has low gravity between 0.24G and 0.34G. The horizon will appear about 3km away.

Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]

Pebble has a pressure of 0.10 to 0.42 atmospheres. The very thin pressures require a respirator or Oxygen Mask. This atmosphere also contains an unusual taint such as disease, a hazardous gas mix, pollutants, or sulfur compounds, which requires the use of a Filter Respirator Combination Mask. Some taints may require more protective equipment. TL–5 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.

  • Temperatures during the long local day are high but plummet to very low levels at night.

The world has an abiotic oxygen atmosphere.

  • Oxygen is produced by photocatalytic conversion of surface materials by stellar energy.
  • Fresh surface material is constantly exposed through processes such as seismic activity, volcanism, or erosion.
  • The oxygen rapidly depletes from the atmosphere through oxidization with surface materials: a rough equilibrium between production and depletion exists.
  • The world has a low oxygen taint: the percentage of oxygen in the atmosphere varies according to the density of global cloud cover.

Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]

Pebble has no free-standing water or ice on the surface. Wilderness refueling isn't possible on this world. Water for the inhabitants needs to be imported and extensively recycled. These worlds are classified Desert World or a Hell World depending on their atmosphere.

Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]

No centrally held map of the world exists within AAB Library Data records.

Native Lifeforms[edit]

No native life: the world has an abiotic oxygen atmosphere.

World Starport (St)[edit]

Pebble has a Class B Starport, a good quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and most kinds of repair, and construction of non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.

World Population (P)[edit]

Pebble has a population of 70,000 sophonts (tens of thousands).

  • This is a Nonindustrial World, too small to support the complete chain of production of most goods from start to finish.
  • The population almost entirely consists of Mavuzo.
  • A few humans and other sophonts may be encountered.

World Demographics[edit]

Mavuzo hatchlings are typically grown to fulfill their chosen role. As they pupate and undergo their selected metamorphism they can dramatically increase in size depending on the selected caste. Full developed hatchlings can report for duty about a month after hatching. In modern hatcheries, pupating young are connected to vast networks of life support equipment. A brief period of orientation and testing to ensure quality is required. Hatchlings arrive on assignment at about half their final body size as designated for the selected caste role.

World Languages[edit]

World Technology Level (T)[edit]

Pebble possesses a Technology Level of TL–9.

  • Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Fiber optics and satellite communication and data networks.
  • Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Early fusion power.
  • Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
    • Land: Ultra high-speed trains and early grav vehicles.
    • Water: High efficiency sailcraft, multihulled seacraft, improved artificial gills.
    • Air: Tiltrotorcraft, exotic VTOL's, PARWIG, and rocket-assisted suborbitals.
    • Space: SSTO spacecraft, early military spacecraft (System Craft), and interstellar STL starships
    • FTL: Prototype Jump Drive-1.

World Government (G)[edit]

Pebble is governed by a Participatory Democracy where eligible voters determine laws and policy. What determines an eligible voter varies. There may be smaller councils or regional bodies to draft the policies voted upon. Leadership of the government and all members of the bureaucracy are determined by the voting population.

World Law (L)[edit]

Pebble has a low law level. There are few laws, covering only important areas. There may be few or no law enforcement officers, the expectation is citizens will bring law breakers to the attention of the Judicial system. Legal proceedings will be fast, with few people involved. For interactions outside of the framework of the laws, cultural norms dominate. Machine guns, other automatic weapons, portable energy weapons, and other military weapons, body pistols, explosives, and poison gas are typically regulated or prohibited.

World Economy[edit]

  • Resources: 6 (few)
  • Labor: 3 (thousands)
  • Infrastructure: 3 (very limited)
  • Efficiency -1 (average)

Trade Data[edit]

Importance: +0 (ordinary)

World Culture[edit]

  • Homogeneity: 6 (harmonious)
  • Acceptance: 4 (extremely aloof)
  • Strangeness: 8 (very confusing)
  • Symbols: A (abstract)
