5282AD–5290AD. A conflict in the Nist Cluster during the Early War period of the Scybrian Wars.

Description / Specifications[edit]

A full-scale military intervention by Scybrian Polyarchy forces in the Nist cluster in response to Corolian Jurisdicture interference in the Haden Insurgency, tensions over trade rights, and a rise in organised pirate activity. The Nist War was the second major conflict of the Scybrian Wars.

History & Background[edit]

The worlds of the Afkhar Cluster and the Nist Cluster were historically close, with a mutual language and shared heritage: the two regions had joined together as the Grand Ascendency before the arrival of the Voyagers and the onset of the Dark Age. Following the Renaissance, Scybrian Settlement focused on the Nist Cluster, politically and socially grooming its worlds. The two Clusters formally joined as the Scybrian Polyarchy in 5200AD.

Local Unrest[edit]

Not all of the citizens of the Nist Cluster were happy to be members of the Polyarchy and rebellions broke out across its rimward territories. These smouldered on for decades, fuelled by the Corolian Jurisdicture which sought to use them to destabilise the region. During the Corolian Border Wars (5244AD–5266AD) the Jurisdicture dramatically stepped up its covert support of these conflicts, supplying large amounts of military materials and “advisers” to the various anti-Scybrian guerrilla forces operating within the Nist Cluster. It focused in particular on Haden, fuelling the Haden Insurgency.

By the start of the 5280s Scybrian and Corolian forces were increasingly coming into direct contact and by 5282AD a general war was in effect between the two states.

Tsorvan Engagements[edit]

The early part of the conflict was characterised by skirmishes and small-scale engagements. The situation escalated throughout the decade, spilling into the neutral worlds of Tsorva Subsector, and in the closing years of the war there was large-scale surface combat and a number of large fleet actions. By 5290AD the Polyarchy had quelled much of the unrest and successfully cut off the flow of finances and equipment to the dissidents.

The Armistice[edit]

The Corolian Jurisdicture, struggling with its own internal problems, readily agreed to an armistice. Troops and ships were withdrawn to pre-war positions.
