History & Background[edit]
The worlds of the Nist Cluster were first settled during the 24th and 25th centuries and formed the spinward border of the Second Confederation. They declared themselves to be an independent Polity, the Collective of Nist, during the civil wars: the Collective generally sided with the Expansionist faction. It later became part of the Grand Ascendency. Those populations of the Cluster that survived the Voyagers and the Dark Age became regressed and insular.
The Scavengers picked over its worlds following the Renaissance. The development and loyalties of the Cluster were a constant source of conflict between Outworld Development and Scybrian Settlement – in general Scybria came out on top.
The Nist Cluster joined with the Afkhar Cluster as the Scybrian Polyarchy in 5200AD: there were uprisings on its worlds and anti-Scybrian guerrilla movements, largely sponsored by the Corolian Jurisdicture, continued resisting the state throughout the Scybrian Wars. An early conflict, the Nist War, consolidated the Clusters' position within the Polyarchy. It suffered greatly during the later stages of the Wars and in the post-war period all of its members elected to become independent.
