Haden Insurgency
5349AD–5392AD. A guerrilla conflict in the Haden system during the Corolian Border Wars.
Background / Specifications[edit]
Part of the Early War period of the Scybrian Wars. It concerned mineral and water rights contested by tribal “Backlanders”, who inhabited the vast and arid outback of Haden, and “Farmers”, who dwelt in the cities and agricultural lands around Haden’s Crater Seas. The Backlanders numbered in excess of 2 billion and had an approximate TL of 5, while the Farmers numbered approximately 900 million and had an approximate TL of 7.
History & Background / Dossier[edit]
The Scybrian Polyarchy supported the Farmers’ claims in exchange for mineral extraction rights, but found itself dragged into a protracted war against a resourceful and determined enemy protecting its ancestral territories and covertly supported by the Corolian Jurisdicture. The Haden Insurgency continued through the Short Peace when other worlds found peaceful solutions to their problems.
The Insurgency flared again during the Nist War, with the Jurisdicture's increasingly overt support for the Backlanders causing problems. The presence of Jurisdicture "advisers" on a world that was formally part of the Polyarchy was intolerable and huge numbers of Polyarchy forces were deployed.
The Scybrian faction always had the home territory advantage but the increasingly long-range nature of the Nist War (5382AD–5390AD) drew away Scybrian resources and allowed the Backlanders to seize the initiative. During the Long Peace, after more than four decades of conflict and with the military situation little changed, most of the groups agreed a settlement.
