New Colchis is a high-population, industrial world with a billion or more sophonts in population size.
- As an industrial world, this planet has well-developed manufacturing and processing industries. Manufactured goods are a major export item.
- Its economy is rapidly growing and living conditions are expected to rapidly improve barring outside forces.
- This is a "high technology" world with technology achievements at, near, or above the standard for Charted Space.
- It is a Non-Aligned world dominated by human sophonts located in the New Islands Subsector of Reft Sector.
- This world has a Naval Base, usually associated with military starships.
- This world has a Military Base, usually associated with military ground forces.
- This world has a colony at Herzenslust (Reft 1426).
Astrography and Planetology[edit]
New Colchis is part of a four-world chain of systems that can be reached by Jump-1. This chain, known as the New Islands Central Region in local charts (the term 'main' is an Imperial concept and not generally used in the Islands), connects via Jump-2 to most of the worlds of the Old Islands Subsector. Therefore, trade with Neubayern, New Home, Amondiage and Sansterre is relatively common.
Stellar Data[edit]
System Data[edit]
The population is concentrated on the mainworld, with only fairly small settlements on other worlds in the system.
Mainworld Data[edit]
Mainworld Size (S)[edit]
New Colchis is a Meso World between 12,000km and 13,500km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.8G and 1.1G. The horizon will appear about 5.1km away. Vessels with 1G of thrust should check with local starport authorities before attempting to land using emergency power.
Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]
New Colchis has a pressure of 1.50 to 2.49 atmospheres. While a Dense Atmosphere requires no survival gear this atmosphere also contains an unusual taint such as disease, a hazardous gas mix, pollutants, or sulfur compounds which requires the use of a Filter Mask. Some taints may require more protective equipment. TL–3 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.
Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]
New Colchis has 45-55% of its surface covered by liquid water. Wilderness refueling is possible.
History and background[edit]
A tertiary world, colonized from Colchis (Reft 2026), which was in turn colonized from New Home (Reft 1925), New Colchis is an industrialized trade center with a colony at Herzenlust (Reft 1426). Its government is headed by a charismatic dictator. [2]
Within the Islands Cluster, most emigration since the development of jump drive has been from high-population worlds to others already occupied but less crowded. Sometimes the new residents have taken political control away from the original inhabitants; New Colchis gained its colony of Herzenlust in this manner.[3]
World Starport[edit]
New Colchis has a Class A Starport, an excellent quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and other kinds of repair, and construction of both starships and non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.
Government[edit]
The dictatorship has been passed down a single family line for some time, but this was not a legal requirement. The legitimacy of the New Colchis ruling house is derived from successful leadership from the colonial days to the present. The ruling house now has a number of branches, and inevitably other noble houses have come into being since the trappings of royalty were introduced.
Culture[edit]
Due to its location, New Colchis is somewhat involved in the politics of the Old Islands Subsector, and is less isolationist than other local powers like Esperanza, Joyeuse or Serendip Belt. Although astrographically located in the New Islands, New Colchis is spiritually a part of the Old Islands. This can lead to an attitude of being somehow better than the New Islands colonies, and New Colchis citizens are seen as rather arrogant.
Trivia[edit]
This world gives its name to the New Colchis System fighter doctrine.
