McLuhan is a ring of many small worldlets (planetoids AKA an "asteroid belt"), not capable of retaining an atmosphere or water, and are both non-agricultural and nonindustrial in nature.

  • These worldlets warrant hazardous environment precautions.
  • Life in a vacuum requires great discipline. After all, it only takes one forgotten seal on a vacuum suit to spell death. Those who survive tend to be very methodically-minded and attentive to small detail.
  • They require extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. Having to import most manufactured and high tech goods drives the price up for these items at this world.
  • The worldlets are, for the most part, unable to produce quality foodstuffs and must import them.
  • These worldlets have very few prospect for economic expansion.
  • It is a Non-Aligned world dominated by human sophonts located in the Jauhaux Subsector of Theta Borealis Sector.

Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]

System Data[edit]

The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:

Mainworld Data[edit]

McLuhan is an Asteroid Belt mainworld.

The belt orbits within the outer system.

Mainworld Size (S)[edit]

McLuhan is an Asteroid Belt consisting of a few very large objects with diameters of hundreds of kilometers, thousands of bodies of a few kilometers in diameter, and millions of smaller objects.

Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]

None of the bodies within the McLuhan Belt retain an atmosphere.

Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]

The McLuhan Belt contains multiple icy bodies. Many belt objects have frozen volatiles on their surfaces.

  • Wilderness refueling is possible within the belt, provided a suitable icy object can be found.
  • Water for the inhabitants is generally imported and is extensively recycled.

Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]

No centrally held chart of the belt exists within AAB Library Data records.

  • Locally, detailed maps may be available.
  • Verified updated charts are constantly sought.
  • Detailed survey data commands premium prices.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

Comp-Prog-Dav-R-Deitrick-Starter-Trav-Page-16 16-July-2018a.jpg

McLuhan is a busy outpost.

World Starport (St)[edit]

McLuhan has a Class A Starport, an excellent quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and other kinds of repair, and construction of both starships and non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.

World Demographics (P)[edit]

McLuhan has a population of 6,000,000.

Urbanization[edit]

A single city tunnelled into a large rocky planetoid.

  • Small facilities exist on other rocky bodies.
  • Structures and facilities are sealed.

World Technology Level (T)[edit]

McLuhan possesses a Technology Level of TL–11 or TL-B in Hexadecimal Notation.

World Government (G)[edit]

McLuhan is governed by a Feudal Technocracy. Society divides itself based on the technical requirements of the society. Each of these functions are granted as a fief to an individual or group. Leadership of these fiefs determines the head of the government.

World Military[edit]

Approximately 2500 personnel.

World Law (L)[edit]

McLuhan has a high law level with laws covering many areas of interactions of people, corporations, and the government. A few worlds with this law level may be Amber Zones. Any interaction with the judicial system requires an Advocate trained in the local legal system. Law enforcement is present almost everywhere, either as people or via technology. Legal proceedings can take weeks to months to resolve and involve a dozen or more people. All objects specifically manufactured as weapons are typically regulated or prohibited (outside private residences or visiting starships).

World Economy[edit]

  • Resources: 9 (moderate)
  • Labor: 5 (hundreds of thousands)
  • Infrastructure: 5 (limited)
  • Efficiency: +2 (good)

Trade Data[edit]

  • Importance: -3 (very unimportant)

World Culture[edit]

  • Homogeneity: 7 (discordant)
  • Acceptance: 7 (aloof)
