The rank of Master Chief Petty Officer (E9) is the second highest non-commissioned officer rank in the Imperial Navy.

Description (Specifications)[edit]

Master Chief Petty Officers are typically the second of the petty officer aboard ship and rated "Mate". e.g. Machinist's mate. Aboard smaller vessels, they may be the most senior petty officer aboard.

Master Chief Petty Officers may be addressed as Master Chief. The Master Chief Petty Officer at a Fleet Headquarters unit is the Command Master Chief. The Master Chief Petty Officer at Naval Headquarters on Capital is the Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

The term petty officer dates back to the Age of Sail. They were a senior sailor, less than the officers but more senior than other ordinary sailors, was known as a petty or lesser officer.
