The rank of Commander (O5) is the second most senior non-flag-officer officer rank in the Imperial Navy.

Description (Specifications)[edit]
Each Spaceship of the Imperial Navy (except the smallest) is under the charge of a Commander, if not commanded by an officer with the rank of Captain. Naval Commanders may also hold staff appointments, or command Groups/Wings of small craft aboard larger vessels.
- The Imperial Army Ground Force Command equivalent is Lieutenant Colonel.
- The Imperial Army Nautical Force Command equivalent is Commander.
- The Imperial Marines equivalent is Lieutenant Coronel.

This rank has a long history from its first inception in the wet-navies of pre-spaceflight planetary naval services. It is shortened from the old term Master and Commander.
