History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
Historically, the rank was the second in command of a fleet and the leader of the vanguard elements of the fleet in the line of battle.
A Battle Fleet or Large Task Force or a detachment of multiple Task Groups or squadrons from one or more numbered fleets in the Imperium will be normally be commanded by a Vice Admiral. A Vice-Admiral may sometimes be given charge of one of the Numbered Fleets in a sector.
Permanent appointment to this rank attracts the title of Knight or Baronet [1][2]. i.e. Should there not be any appropriate Noble candidate, the non-Noble will be granted a knighthood as part of the promotion process.
