Description (Specifications)[edit]
The rank of Cadet (O0) is the rank of an officer-in-training in the Imperial Navy. The rank of Cadet has no command authority. If a Cadet is required to act in any capacity in a command role outside training, they are granted a temporary commission as a Midshipman.
- The equivalent rank in the Imperial Marines is Cadet.
- The equivalent rank in the Imperial Army (Ground Force Command) is Officer Cadet
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
The term "Cadet" originated on ancient pre-industrial Terra from the practice of placing "marks of cadence" upon the coats-of-arms of the younger sons of an arms-bearer, the younger sons being said to belong to "cadet-lines" of the family. As these younger sons normally possessed no prospective inheritance, they would often enter into military service as an "officer-in-training" at a military academy, where they were known as "cadets".
In Imperial usage, Cadet is a rank held by prospective marine officers during their training at a Naval Officer Training Corps at a Civil College to become commissioned officers. Members of the Imperial Naval Academy intending to enter the Imperial Navy will also be ranked as Cadets.
