The appointment to the position of Flight Sergeant Major (E9) for a Chief Master Flight Sergeant (E9) is to the most senior non-commissioned officer posting in an Imperial Army Air Squadron. It is considered to be the equivalent of a Senior Warrant Officer.

Description (Specifications)[edit]
Each Air Squadron in the Imperial Army has one Flight Sergeant Major who is the most senior Sergeant in the unit. Some Imperial Army staff appointments are also by Flight Sergeant Majors. This is also called Warrant Officer.
- The equivalent rank in the Imperial Navy is Master Chief Petty Officer.
- The equivalent rank in the Imperial Marines is Sergeant Major or Chief Master Gunnery Sergeant.
- The equivalent rank in the Imperial Army (Ground Force Command) is Sergeant Major or Chief Master Sergeant.
- The equivalent rank in the Imperial Army (Nautical Force Command) is Master Chief Petty Officer.
The Flight Sergeant Major attached to the staff of the Lord Marshal of the Unified Armies has the title Flight Sergeant Major Imperial and represents the enlisted ranks of the Imperial Army (Close Orbit and Airspace Control Command) to the most senior Officers as well as undertaking other, mostly ceremonial, duties.

The term sergeant refers to a non-commissioned officer placed above the rank of a corporal. The term sergeant major thus refers to the chief of these sergeants.
