Jacent has a very thin atmosphere and very little surface water. The system has a population between 10 million and 100 million sophonts. This is a high technology world with available technology over the standards for Charted Space. It is a member of Darrian Confederation in the Darrian Subsector of Spinward Marches Sector. 100% of the world's population is the Minor Human Race Daryen.
- Jacent is a member of the Spinward Main.
Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]
Stellar Data[edit]
Jacent has a solitary primary star.
- It is a red main sequence.
Mainworld Data[edit]
Even though its atmosphere is very thin, Jacent is a habitable planet due to a high oxygen percentage in its air, primarily the result of extremely active marine plant life and Jacent's close orbit.
It orbits within the habitable zone.
- It receives moderate levels of stellar energy.
Mainworld Size (S)[edit]
Jacent is a Meso World between 5,600km and 7,200km in diameter. The world has low gravity between 0.32G and 0.46G. The horizon will appear about 3.6km away.
Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]
Jacent has a pressure of 0.10 to 0.42 atmospheres. The very thin pressures require a respirator or Oxygen Mask. TL–5 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.
Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]
Jacent has 25-35% of its surface covered by liquid water. It has a few small seas. Wilderness refueling is possible. Water for the inhabitants will be recycled.
Native Lifeforms[edit]
The sea supports a broad native ecology which the human inhabitants make some use of, but only plants inhabit the land, and these are being displaced by imported species of more use to people.
- Zabilz: Colossal shark-like creatures of the deep oceans.
History and Background[edit]
World Starport (Sp)[edit]
Jacent has a Class A Starport, an excellent quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and other kinds of repair, and construction of both starships and non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.
Urbanization[edit]
There are 25 separate arcologies, each an independent administrative district. They are connected by submarine services. Very little of the landmass is occupied, save the well-appointed starport and a few mountain huts for those wanting a holiday. There are no land predators or Darrian-compatible diseases to worry about, but each hut is equipped with a comm system to warn tourists of the approach of solar flares, which might inflict a mild case of radiation poisoning.
Government[edit]
The planetary congress consists of representatives from 25 administrative districts of the planet.
World Languages[edit]
- Te-Zlodh
- Written te-zlodh uses a syllabary of flowing symbols, known as yaser te-yulep (the old script). When the Solomani arrived at Darrian, a new Latin-based alphabet, rome te-yulep ('the Roman script'), was introduced. Currently, yaser te-yulep remains in use for legal documentation, classic literature, poetry and news bulletins, where the speed and efficiency of the syllabary allows for rapid reading. Scientific and educational documentation are written in rome te-yulep.
World Law (L)[edit]
Jacent has a moderate law level with laws covering many areas of government and interaction. These laws are simple enough that most people can act as their own advocate, though for serious issues a professional is recommended. Law enforcement officials will be present, but not in great numbers. Light assault weapons, and anything more destructive, are typically regulated or prohibited.
- The Taledh Code is the basis of Darrian law.
