Hyperion is a high-population, non-agricultural, industrial world with a billion or more sophonts in population size.
- As an industrial world, this planet has well-developed manufacturing and processing industries. Manufactured goods are a major export item.
- It is unable to produce quality foodstuffs and must import them.
- This world is also the overall capital of an interstellar government with the massive extra trade and prestige associated with that role.
- This is a "Puzzle" world designated as an Amber Zone. Caution is advised since the world has an environment, laws, customs, life forms, or other conditions that are not well understood and might be a danger to a visitor.
- It is a member of the Hyperion League in the Hyperion Subsector of Vanguard Reaches Sector.
- Hyperion is the capital of a small alliance of worlds known as the Hyperion League.
- It has a direct colony at Yarx.
Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]
Stellar Data[edit]
Mainworld Data[edit]
Mainworld Size (S)[edit]
Hyperion is a Meso World between 7,200km and 8,800km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.4G and 0.57G. The horizon will appear about 4km away.
Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]
Hyperion has a pressure of less than 0.1 atmospheres which requires the use of a Vacc Suit. TL–8 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.
Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]
Hyperion has no free-standing water or ice on the surface. Wilderness refueling isn't possible on this world. Water for the inhabitants needs to be imported and extensively recycled. These worlds are classified Desert World or a Hell World depending on their atmosphere.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
Hyperion is the center of small alliance of worlds known as the Hyperion League. It is the main focus of trade through the Hyperion and Diadem subsectors. Taking full advantage of its central location, the world has changed from a sleepy, mediocre industrial world into a major enterprise node, shipbuilder and power broker.
World Starport[edit]
Hyperion has a Class A Starport, an excellent quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and other kinds of repair, and construction of both starships and non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.
World Population (P)[edit]
Hyperion has a population of 7,000,000,000 sophonts (billions).
- High Population Worlds like this tend to have huge consumer markets.
World Government (G)[edit]
Hyperion is governed by a Non-charismatic Dictatorship. This is a continuation of the charismatic dictatorship, where the original leadership has died or retired and been replaced by allies or protégés. The justifications for the original change in government remain as well as the assertion of rights to rule.
World Law Level (L)[edit]
Hyperion has a high law level with laws covering many areas of interactions of people, corporations, and the government. A few worlds with this law level may be Amber Zones. Any interaction with the judicial system requires an Advocate trained in the local legal system. Law enforcement is present almost everywhere, either as people or via technology. Legal proceedings can take weeks to months to resolve and involve a dozen or more people. All objects specifically manufactured as weapons are typically regulated or prohibited (outside private residences or visiting starships).
The Hyperion Public Safety Department (HPSD), contracted to a Hyperion Lines subsidiary, acts as a paramilitary law enforcement organisation on Hyperion (as well as Assoulda and Yarx).
World Technology Level (TL)[edit]
Hyperion possesses a Technology Level of TL–12 or TL-C in Hexadecimal Notation.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Holovision, Personal Global Communications, and advanced Translators.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Increasingly advanced fusion plants and advanced fuel cells.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land, Water & Air: Personal G-Tubes and advanced gravcraft.
- Space: Advanced interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).
- FTL: Jump Drive-3.
World Culture[edit]
Low levels of unrest -- mostly boycotts and peaceful protests -- are common across Hyperion's domed and underground cities. After the takeover of Patina -- now Enterprise -- a rebel organisation, the Patina Freedom Front (PFF), infiltrated Hyperion and began a campaign of sabotage against Hyperion League facilities (usually avoiding major casualties).
New Era[edit]
The world was subjected to a three-way war during the 1170s between factions backed by the Corellan League and the Murians, and local nationalists. The nationalists won after importing Aslan mercenaries to bolster their forces. The Amber Zone rating reflects lingering suspicions and tensions between the victors and their subjugated foes.
