Singularity Drive
An Singularity Drive is a high-output / high-efficiency Interstellar STL starship drive.
Description (Specifications)[edit]
A Singularity Drive utilizes a ~ 6.06 ktonne artificial singularity (~ 0.9 attometer Schwarzschild radius) generating approximately 160 petawatts of power to accelerate a vessel to ~ 0.1c in about 20 days, presuming 100% efficiency of energy conversion to kinetic energy (or 10 times that amount at only 10% conversion efficiency). Such a singularity typically would have about a 3.5 year operational lifespan before requiring replacement.
Several different mechanisms to convert Hawking radiation into prolusion have been proposed for such a drive, the most effective being placing the singularity at the focal point of a parabolic reflector attached or otherwise secured to the stern of the ship, creating forward thrust, or the use of a rotating Kerr-Newmann singularity to take advantage of the formation of a controlled microquasar.
Another alternate propulsion mechanism based upon the Singularity Drive would be the photonic Halo Drive, utilizing an infalling photon source along a null-geodesic to gain kinetic energy from the singularity and transfer it to the vessel after the interaction.
