Jump Potentiator
A Jump Potentiator is a rumored jump drive device.
- It is a theoretical kind of Ship Equipment and probably an artifact.
- See also: Hieronymous Device
- See also: Jump Exponentiator
Description (Specifications)[edit]
It is believed that such a device would allow an exponential multiplicative effect to a jump drive without expanding fuel usage.
- As there have only been one rumored artifact example found, it is not currently known what technology level such a device would be.
- As far as most scientists are concerned, the device is an old wives' tale, a theoretical bit of nonsense.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
Most believe the legendary device to be an Old Spacer's Tale.
Rumor Theory #1[edit]
Norris (...and, later, his True Daughter Seldrian) had a device for jumping at rates exceeding known jump rates. The origin of this is shrouded in the mists of time, is singular, and can only be reproduced at technology levels approaching the Technological Singularity. The device has distinct and peculiar requirements unlikely to ever be divulged. It is absolutely NOT the key to a functioning Hop Drive. [1]
Rumor Theory #2[edit]
While Norris had NO clue about Hop Drives, he DID have that magic whoozits that allowed the ANNIC NOVA to exponentiate its drives. Would that work? They might all *think* that it must've been some sort of accidental Jump/Hop Drive tech without knowing exactly what it was. [2]
Rumor Theory #3[edit]
The Jump Potentiator is actually the Hieronymous Device.
Technological Overview of Alternate FTL Devices[edit]
- Jump Drive → Nexus Linkage Device → Jump Governor → Advanced FTL Drives (Hop Drive or more advanced) → Hieronymous Device → Jump Potentiator
