Gurgan is a rich, moderate population desert world with no free-standing water and a population over a hundred million, but not yet at a billion sophonts in size.
- This is a rich world with a prosperous and thriving world economy.
- It is a Non-Aligned world dominated by human sophonts located in the Jauhaux Subsector of Theta Borealis Sector.
- This world is a "Twilight Zone World", a planet that is tidally-locked to its star. It has a hot side that permanently faces the star, a cold side that permanently faces away, and a narrow twilight zone in-between.
Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]
Stellar Data[edit]
Gurgan has a solitary primary star.
- It is a red main sequence.
System Data[edit]
The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:
- The mainworld.
- x6 secondary rocky worlds.
- x1 planetoid belt.
- x2 gas giants.
Mainworld Data[edit]
Gurgan is a Twilight Zone World.
- In the narrow region between permanent night and permanent day, the primary star eternally hangs on the horizon.
The mainworld orbits within the star's Habitable Zone.
- It lies within the zone's prime H region.
- It receives moderate levels of stellar energy.
Mainworld Size (S)[edit]
Gurgan is a Meso World between 7,200km and 8,800km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.4G and 0.57G. The horizon will appear about 4km away.
Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]
Gurgan has a pressure of 1.50 to 2.49 atmospheres. A Dense Atmosphere requires no survival gear although it may be hard on sophonts not accustomed to it.
Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]
Gurgan has no free-standing water or ice on the surface. Wilderness refueling isn't possible on this world. Water for the inhabitants needs to be imported and extensively recycled. These worlds are classified Desert World or a Hell World depending on their atmosphere.
Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]
No centrally held map of the world exists within AAB Library Data records.
- Locally, detailed maps may be available.
(Placeholder chart, predominantly dry world.)
Native Lifeforms[edit]
Primitive native life, principally photosynthetic lichen-like organisms, occupying a number of ecological niches. Their metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal.
- Native lifeforms are able to retain moisture and thrive in the most marginal conditions.
- A number of accidentally imported species survive by consuming native lifeforms.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
Gurgan is a pleasant backwater with a stable economy and comfortable standards of living.
- Settlement within the system comes from trailing, from the heavily populated worlds of the Verstand-Jugartha Colonies.
- It has been settled for centuries.
- The resources of the system are being exploited.
A number of organizations and private interests are active within the system.
- Commercial traffic is fairly frequent: ships regularly arrive and depart.
- Commo is filled with signals and private chatter. Communications are in Riftian Anglic.
- A number of commercial navigation beacons will be active.
- Vessels occasionally operate among the other worlds and moons that make up the system.
Note that social data, though only 40 years old, may be out of date.
- Verified updated data is constantly sought.
World Starport (St)[edit]
Gurgan has a Class D Starport, a poor quality installation which has few of the expected amenities. There is unrefined fuel for starships and a limited variety of ship provisions. There is no shipyard of any kind, but there may be parts and technical support for doing minor services and repair. Ports of this classification generally consist of only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.
World Population (P)[edit]
Gurgan has a population of 600,000,000 sophonts (hundreds of millions).
Urbanization[edit]
Multiple large urban centers are surrounded by smaller satellite communities.
- Inhabited areas are dotted across the world.
- Large regions of the surface of the world remain as wilderness.
World Technology Level (T)[edit]
Gurgan possesses a Technology Level of TL–6.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Telephone, radio, and television.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Early fission power generation, advanced water and wind generation of electricity.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land: Improved automobiles, early ATV's, and dedicated AFV's.
- Water: Amphibious vehicles, improved submersibles, and early SCUBA gear.
- Air: Early jet aircraft and rotorcraft VTOL's.
- Space: Early unmanned rocket delivery systems and early manned orbital rockets.
World Government (G)[edit]
Gurgan has a Balkanized Government. There is no central world government. The world has several governments competing for control of the world. These may be allies, cooperating, competitors, or at war with each other.
World Military[edit]
Approximately 2 million personnel.
- Each nation-state maintains its own standing army.
World Law (L)[edit]
Gurgan has a moderate law level with laws covering many areas of government and interaction. These laws are simple enough that most people can act as their own advocate, though for serious issues a professional is recommended. Law enforcement officials will be present, but not in great numbers. All firearms, and anything more destructive, are typically regulated or prohibited.
Trade Data[edit]
- Importance: -1 (unimportant)
World Economy[edit]
- Resources: A (abundant)
- Labor: 7 (tens of millions)
- Infrastructure: 6 (limited)
- Efficiency: -1 (average)
World Culture[edit]
- Homogeneity: 8 (discordant)
- Acceptance: 7 (aloof)
- Strangeness: 5 (distinct)
- Symbols: 6 (somewhat concrete)
World Timeline[edit]
- 300-420: the First Survey charts the system.
- 995-1065: the Second Survey charts the system.
- 1065: the Second Survey is published.
