Derla is a fluid world with an oceanic geography of a liquid other than water such as ammonia, methane, hydrocarbons, or other exotic liquids. The system has a population between 10,000 and 10 million, lacking the industrial base to be completely self-supporting. This planet is tidally-locked to its primary star with a hot region facing the primary, a cold region on the other side, and a habitable area in the twilight zone between. It is a member of Third Imperium in the Zeda Subsector of Dagudashaag Sector and in the Domain of Vland. Derla, as a member world of the Third Imperium, holds the estate of an Imperial knight, a member of the Imperial Landed Nobility who acts as an Imperial representative to the world. This world contains an Imperial Scout Base, capable of handling Scout Service starships and personnel. During the Long Night this world was named Aarenziisge.

Astrography and Planetology[edit]

Derla is a member of the Dagudashaag Main.

Stellar Data[edit]

Derla has a solitary primary star.

Mainworld Data[edit]

Derla itself is tidally locked to the primary star and cloaked in an insidious mix of gases. The surface colony is located on the bright face and entirely underground.

Mainworld Size (S)[edit]

Derla is a Meso World between 12,000km and 13,500km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.8G and 1.1G. The horizon will appear about 5.1km away. Vessels with 1G of thrust should check with local starport authorities before attempting to land using emergency power.

Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]

Derla has a Corrosive Atmosphere and possesses a concentrated gas mix or unusual temperature which requires the use of a Hostile Environment Suit or Vacc Suit. TL–9 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.

Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]

Derla has 25-35% of its surface covered by liquid water. It has a few small seas. Wilderness refueling is possible. Water for the inhabitants will be recycled.

Mainworld Geography & Topography[edit]

History and Background[edit]

The system was host to a Zeda Alignment scout and corsair base.

In 1108 Derla's starport was downgraded from class-C to class-D; there is speculation that DagMet AG intends to have the starport relocated to the planetoid belt.

Interstellar Petrochemical Processing.jpg

The world's primary industry involves quarrying the richly colored local stone and producing fine quality carvings. On the planet's dark face, atmospheric gases (mostly ammonia and ammonia compounds) condense and form a large sea. The northern shore of the sea is the site of an enormous chemical synthesis complex, entirely owned and operated by DagMet AG.

Interstellar Petrochemical Processing is also interested in Derla and has a complex dirtside.

World Starport (Sp)[edit]

Derla has a Class D Starport, a poor quality installation which has few of the expected amenities. There is unrefined fuel for starships and a limited variety of ship provisions. There is no shipyard of any kind, but there may be parts and technical support for doing minor services and repair. Ports of this classification generally consist of only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.

World Population (P)[edit]

Derla has a population of 300,000 sophonts (hundreds of thousands).

  • This is a Nonindustrial World, too small to support the complete chain of production of most goods from start to finish.

Linguistic Topography[edit]

World Government (G)[edit]

Derla is governed by a Feudal Technocracy. Society divides itself based on the technical requirements of the society. Each of these functions are granted as a fief to an individual or group. Leadership of these fiefs determines the head of the government.

World Law (L)[edit]

Derla has a moderate law level with laws covering many areas of government and interaction. These laws are simple enough that most people can act as their own advocate, though for serious issues a professional is recommended. Law enforcement officials will be present, but not in great numbers. All firearms, and anything more destructive, are typically regulated or prohibited.

World Technology Level (T)[edit]

Derla possesses a Technology Level of TL–9.

  • Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Fiber optics and satellite communication and data networks.
  • Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Early fusion power.
  • Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
    • Land: Ultra high-speed trains and early grav vehicles.
    • Water: High efficiency sailcraft, multihulled seacraft, improved artificial gills.
    • Air: Tiltrotorcraft, exotic VTOL's, PARWIG, and rocket-assisted suborbitals.
    • Space: SSTO spacecraft, early military spacecraft (System Craft), and interstellar STL starships
    • FTL: Prototype Jump Drive-1.

Historical Data[edit]

Timeline[edit]

Major events that have affected this world and the wider region that it lies within:

  • -2404 to -2215: To trailing and rimward, the Interstellar Wars are waged.
  • -2204 to -1776: The Rule of Man administers the worlds of the region.
  • -1776 to 0: The Long Night.
  • -642: War breaks out between the Ziadd and the Ushran Empire.
    • Outmatched by the Ushran navy, the war goes badly for the Ziadd.
  • -639: The Ushran capture Zeda after a long and bloody campaign.
  • -600: The Ushran Empire has conquered most of the former Ziadd worlds. Remaining Ziadd forces, now scattered, begin a campaign of corsair activity to support the ongoing rebellions on the Ziadd planets.
  • Circa -400: The Zeda Alignment corsairs begin to capture whole worlds, the Ushran Navy no longer able to keep them at bay.
  • The Year 0: The Third Imperium is founded.
  • 46: A series of uprisings on Zeda, supported by the corsairs, sufficiently weaken military control of the world.
