Daedalus (Al 0606) is a pre-agricultural, rich world with a moderate population of over a hundred million, but not yet a billion sophonts.

  • This world has a Naval Base, usually associated with military starships.
  • This world has a Military Base, usually associated with military ground forces.
  • About 90% of the population is composed of baseline Solomani humans and other non-human sophonts.
  • About 10% of the population is composed of Dolphins.
  • It is a member of the Euxene Cluster.

System Data[edit]

The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:

The system is characterized by its plethora of gas giants and its dense, metal-rich inner planets. The system age is roughly 5.5 billion years.

Mainworld Data[edit]

Daedalus has a slow rotation period: one local day is equivalent to 5.7 standard days (136 standard hours). [2]

As a tidally-locked world, it has the expected cold-pole on its far-side, covered in a large mass of glaciers which comprises 50% of the world's total water. The hot-pole is a blasted desert with a temperature of over 60 standard degrees.

The difference in temperature gives rise to a worldwide system of Hadley cells that extend around the planet. To explain, hot dry air on the sunward side causes the air to heat up, rise, and make a low pressure area. On the far side, the air currents cool down, fall, and cause a high pressure area. Because the air moves from high pressure to low pressure, it flows back around the planet toward the hot side, taking moisture with it. These hot and cold fronts will mix most around the terminator, causing intense storms that will bring rain and clouds, replenishing the circular world-ocean that has formed in that region.

There are mountain ranges and hills on the sunward side, which help to induce rainfall over the ocean region, though strong storms will crest the hills on occasion.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

Comp-Prog-Dav-R-Deitrick-Starter-Trav-Page-16 16-July-2018a.jpg

Daedalus is a member of the Euxene Cluster, a small but important cluster and a major trade center lying in the spinward-coreward quadrant of Aldebaran Sector.

Solomani Security keeps a close eye on things to ensure the security of the Confederation and the well-being of its loyal citizens. Almost anyone could be a SolSec informant, passing on all sorts of useful information: some gain a reward or benefit for their actions, others are coerced, but many see it as an act of duty to help protect the Solomani state and its interests.

World Starport[edit]

Daedalus (Al 0606) has a Class A Starport, an excellent quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and other kinds of repair, and construction of both starships and non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.

World Demographics[edit]

Urbanization[edit]

There are several cities on both sides of the ocean, to take advantage of different climates.

Two cities are located further into the nightward side. These cities still get some "late dusk" sunlight levels, and enjoy a cooler clime, as suits their populaces.

World Technology Level[edit]

Daedalus (Al 0606) possesses a Technology Level of TL–9.

  • Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Fiber optics and satellite communication and data networks.
  • Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Early fusion power.
  • Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
    • Land: Ultra high-speed trains and early grav vehicles.
    • Water: High efficiency sailcraft, multihulled seacraft, improved artificial gills.
    • Air: Tiltrotorcraft, exotic VTOL's, PARWIG, and rocket-assisted suborbitals.
    • Space: SSTO spacecraft, early military spacecraft (System Craft), and interstellar STL starships
    • FTL: Prototype Jump Drive-1.

World Government[edit]

Daedalus (Al 0606) is governed by a Civil Service Bureaucracy. The leadership of the government takes another form (democracy, dictatorship, oligarchy), but the bureaucracy leadership influences policy. The government leadership may select the bureaucracy leadership, but not its membership. Usually the governmental leadership is divided, or incapable of setting policy, and the bureaucracy provides a stabilizing influence. This ruling bureaucracy may be the full government bureaucractic apparatus or a section with limited jurisdiction but considerable influence, like the military.

World Law Level[edit]

Daedalus (Al 0606) has a high law level with laws covering many areas of interactions of people, corporations, and the government. A few worlds with this law level may be Amber Zones. Any interaction with the judicial system requires an Advocate trained in the local legal system. Law enforcement is present almost everywhere, either as people or via technology. Legal proceedings can take weeks to months to resolve and involve a dozen or more people. All objects specifically manufactured as weapons are typically regulated or prohibited (outside private residences or visiting starships).

World Military[edit]

The system hosts both a Republic Naval Base and a full-fledged Military Base.

World Economy[edit]

Daedalus enjoys a steady stream of tourists from the Euxene core systems.

Trade Data[edit]

Local art and craftworks are often exported.

World Culture[edit]

The culture of Daedalus is relatively relaxed and accepting of visitors.

  2. Editor's Note: Daedalus is noted as being a Locked World. Since it is not a satellite of a larger secondary world and it's star is not a good candidate to have a relatively temperate Twilight Zone World, this noted characteristic has been changed to a longer rotation period.
