Cambridge is an agricultural, nonindustrial, pre-rich world with a growing agro-economy, but still lacks an adequate population to expand its economy to a rich status.
- As an agricultural world, this world is a near-ideal environment for producing quality foodstuffs of plant, animal, and other forms. Quality foodstuffs are a major export commodity for this world.
- It requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. Having to import most manufactured and high tech goods drives the price up for these items at this world.
- This world has promising economic future although it needs to recruit a larger labor force in order to achieve the desired prosperity.
- It is a Non-Aligned world dominated by human sophonts located in the Vanguard Subsector of Fulani Sector.
- This is a temperate world, with a climate of pleasant, average temperatures, considered to be an ideal or near-ideal environment by many different sophont species.
- This world toils under the control of a military government with conditions reflecting that situation, including curtailed civil rights and limited freedoms.
Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]
Stellar Data[edit]
Cambridge is a binary star system.
- The primary is a yellow main sequence.
- The secondary is a brown dwarf substellar object.
System Data[edit]
The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:
- The mainworld.
- x6 secondary rocky worlds.
- x3 gas giants.
Mainworld Data[edit]
The mainworld orbits within the star's Habitable Zone.
- It lies within the zone's prime H region.
- It receives moderate levels of stellar energy.
Mainworld Size (S)[edit]
Cambridge is a Meso World between 7,200km and 8,800km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.4G and 0.57G. The horizon will appear about 4km away.
Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]
Cambridge has a pressure of 0.71 to 1.49 atmospheres. A Standard Atmosphere does not require survival gear and will likely be easy for most sophonts to breathe.
Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]
Cambridge has 75-85% of its surface covered by liquid water with a few large continents and extensive islands. Wilderness refueling is possible.
Satellites[edit]
Cambridge retains a small trace atmosphere moon.
- It orbits once every few weeks.
Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]
No centrally held map of the world exists within AAB Library Data records.
- Locally, detailed maps may be available.
- Verified updated charts are constantly sought.
- Detailed survey data commands premium prices.
(Placeholder chart, predominantly watery world.)
Native Lifeforms[edit]
Abundant native life occupying every available ecological niche. Its metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
Cambridge is relatively quiet, with a dwindling economy and falling standards of living. It is fiercely independent and has refused assistance from the Zhodani.
- Many believe the world's terrible economic situation is a result of Zhodani interference.
- The resources of the system remain largely untapped.
A few private interests are active within the system.
- Commercial traffic is sporadic: ships occasionally arrive and depart.
- Commo picks up frequent signals and private chatter. Communications are in Riftian Anglic and Zdetl.
- A few commercial navigation beacons will be active.
- A few vessels may be operating among the other worlds and moons that make up the system.
Note that social data, though only 40 years old, may be out of date.
- Verified updated data is constantly sought.
World Starport (St)[edit]
Cambridge has a Class C Starport, an average quality installation which features amenities including unrefined fuel for starships, some brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing maintenance and other kinds of repair. Ports of this classification generally have only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.
World Population (P)[edit]
Cambridge has a population of 100,000 sophonts (hundreds of thousands).
- This is a Nonindustrial World, too small to support the complete chain of production of most goods from start to finish.
Urbanization[edit]
A few urban centers are surrounded by smaller satellite communities.
- Inhabited areas are dotted across the world.
- Much of the surface of the world remains as wilderness.
World Technology Level (T)[edit]
Cambridge possesses a Technology Level of TL–6.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Telephone, radio, and television.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Early fission power generation, advanced water and wind generation of electricity.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land: Improved automobiles, early ATV's, and dedicated AFV's.
- Water: Amphibious vehicles, improved submersibles, and early SCUBA gear.
- Air: Early jet aircraft and rotorcraft VTOL's.
- Space: Early unmanned rocket delivery systems and early manned orbital rockets.
World Government (G)[edit]
Cambridge has a Captive Government or Colony. The world is ruled by an external government, there is no self-rule. This is a colony or conquered area. The local government is an oligarchy appointed by, and answerable only to, the external government.
- The world is controlled by a military junta.
World Military[edit]
Approximately 1000 personnel.
World Law (L)[edit]
Cambridge has a moderate level with laws covering many areas of government and interaction. These laws are simple enough that most people can act as their own advocate, though for serious issues a professional is recommended. Law enforcement officials will be present, but not in great numbers. Personal concealable firearms, and anything more destructive, are typically regulated or prohibited.
