Bal is a low-population hellworld with a population less than 10,000 sophonts struggling to survive in an inhospitable environment .
- Hellworlds often offer daily, and sometimes even hourly, life-threatening situations to their inhabitants.
- It is a Non-Aligned world dominated by human sophonts located in the Galaxa Subsector of Mavuzog Sector.
- This is a hot world, with a climate of high temperatures.
- This is a "low technology" world with technology competencies well below standard for Charted Space.
Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]
Stellar Data[edit]
Bal is a binary star system.
- The primary is a white main sequence.
- The secondary is an orange main sequence.
System Data[edit]
The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:
- The mainworld.
- x6 secondary rocky worlds.
- x2 gas giants
Mainworld Data[edit]
Bal orbits towards the inner edge of the primary star's habitable zone.
- It receives relatively high levels of stellar energy.
Mainworld Size (S)[edit]
Bal is a Big World between 13,600km and 15,200km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 1G and 1.3G. The horizon will appear about 5.4km away. Vessels with only 1G of thrust should avoid landing on this world.
Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]
Bal has an Exotic Atmosphere and possesses an unusual gas mix which requires the use of oxygen tanks. Additionally, protective suits, while not necessary, are recommended. TL–8 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.
- It experiences high temperatures.
Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]
Bal has no free-standing water or ice on the surface. What little water or ice exists is heavily tainted with other substances, which makes it dangerous, corrosive, or toxic. Wilderness refueling isn't possible on this world. Water for the inhabitants needs to be imported and extensively recycled. These worlds are Hell Worlds.
Satellites:[edit]
Bal retains a small close trace atmosphere moon named Gaspa.
- It orbits once every few days.
Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]
No centrally held map of the world exists within AAB Library Data records.
- Locally, detailed maps may be available.
(Placeholder chart, exotic world.)
Native Lifeforms[edit]
Exotic native life occupying a wide range of ecological niches. Its metabolic functions help drive the process of atmospheric renewal.
- They will rapidly die in environmental conditions suitable for humans.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
World Starport (St)[edit]
Bal has a Class C Starport, an average quality installation which features amenities including unrefined fuel for starships, some brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing maintenance and other kinds of repair. Ports of this classification generally have only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.
World Population (P)[edit]
Bal has a population of 7,000 sophonts (thousands).
- This is a Low Population World and the population would be too low to sustain itself without a little outside assistance. This may represent the home base of a sizable but mostly transient population such as the base of a major starship expedition, the last generation of a dying colony, the first generation of a new colony, or a large outpost that will probably evolve into a colony if not stopped.
World Technology Level (T)[edit]
Bal possesses a Technology Level of TL–5.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Telephone, radio, and television.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Electricity, hydrocarbon internal combustion, and the most fundamental atomic energy.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land: Ground cars or automobiles and tracked vehicles.
- Water: Large ships and submersibles with steel hulls.
- Air: Early aircraft including seaplanes and very early unmanned rockets.
World Government (G)[edit]
Bal is governed by a Corporate Polity, having a single corporation with a typical corporate structure as a government. Essentially, this is a "company town" (or world). The typical corporate-run world usually has a single purpose. Examples include mining, agriculture, or other kinds of resource extraction. But rather than a simple base of operations, there are facilities for housing workers and their families, including hospitals, schools, and other infrastructure. How, or if, the children of the workers are incorporated into the workforce varies with companies. The corporation running the world may be a subsidiary of a larger interstellar corporation.
World Law (L)[edit]
Bal has a low law level. There are few laws, covering only important areas. There may be few or no law enforcement officers, the expectation is citizens will bring law breakers to the attention of the Judicial system. Legal proceedings will be fast, with few people involved. For interactions outside of the framework of the laws, cultural norms dominate. Body pistols, explosives, and poison gas are typically regulated or prohibited.
Trade Data[edit]
Importance: -2 (very unimportant)
World Economy[edit]
- Resources: 5 (scarce)
- Labor: 2 (hundreds)
- Infrastructure: 1 (extremely limited)
- Efficiency: -1 (average)
World Culture[edit]
- Homogeneity: 4 (harmonious)
- Acceptance: 1 (extremely xenophobic)
- Strangeness: 5 (distinct)
- Symbols: 5 (concrete)
World Timeline[edit]

- 995-1065: the Second Survey charts the system.
- 1065: the Second Survey is published.
