A'a'suni is a moderate-population world, with too many sophonts to be an agricultural world but not enough to be an industrial world. This world is designated an Amber Zone. Caution is advised since the world has an environment, laws, customs, life forms, or other conditions that are not well understood and might be a danger to a visitor. This is a low technology world with technology competency below the standard for Charted Space. It is a member of Third Imperium in the Pact Subsector of Dagudashaag Sector and in the Domain of Vland. A'a'suni, as a member world of the Third Imperium, holds the estates of an Imperial knight (the Imperial representative to the world) and a baronet, and the fiefdoms of a marquis and a viscount. All four are members of the Imperial Landed Nobility who oversee affairs regarding the world at an Interstellar and Imperial level. This world contains an Imperial Scout Base, capable of handling Scout Service starships and personnel. This is the homeworld of the Athar, a Minor Race. During the Long Night this world was named Iris.

Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]

A'a'suni is a member of the Dagudashaag Main.

System Data[edit]

A'a'suni and its moon, Inuirsuk, are binary planets, each spiraling around a central point of gravity once every seven days, as they orbit the central star.

Mainworld Data[edit]

The planet is covered in layers of ice many kilometers thick, and the local life has adapted itself to the severe cold.

Mainworld Size (S)[edit]

A'a'suni is a Meso World between 7,200km and 8,800km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.4G and 0.57G. The horizon will appear about 4km away.

Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]

A'a'suni has a pressure of 0.43 to 0.70 atmospheres. While the thin atmosphere does not require survival gear this atmosphere also contains an unusual taint such as disease, a hazardous gas mix, pollutants, or sulfur compounds which requires the use of a Filter Mask. Some taints may require more protective equipment. TL–3 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.

Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]

A'a'suni has 55-65% of its surface covered by liquid water. It has significant large liquid bodies. Wilderness refueling is possible.

Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]

Cold World 05.jpg

No centrally held map of the world exists within AAB Library Data records.

Native Lifeforms[edit]

Athar.jpg

The world has complex native life occupying a number of ecological niches.

  • Native lifeforms are cryophilic - they thrive in low temperatures.
  • There is a complex food web, in which the Athar are dominant predators.

Native Sophont: Athar[edit]

The pacifistic Athar are descended from hexapodal (six-limbed) carnivores. They are rarely seen off-world as their ideal temperature is -130°C and they would boil to death in normal human temperatures.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

Imperial Landed Nobility (N)[edit]

A'a'suni, as a member world of the Third Imperium, holds the estates of four members of the Imperial Nobility, who are charged with overseeing the world.

  • It holds the estate of an Imperial knight.
  • It holds the estate of an Imperial baronet.
  • It holds the fiefdom of an Imperial marquis.
  • It holds the fiefdom of an Imperial viscount.

World Starport (St)[edit]

A'a'suni has a Class C Starport, an average quality installation which features amenities including unrefined fuel for starships, some brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing maintenance and other kinds of repair. Ports of this classification generally have only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.

World Population (P)[edit]

A'a'suni has a population of 300,000,000 sophonts (hundreds of millions).

  • The population almost entirely consists of Athar.
  • A few humans and other sophonts may be encountered.

Linguistic Topography[edit]

  • Anglic: Officially, if not in practice.
  • Native languages
  • Vilani: Officially, if not in practice.

Urbanization[edit]

Most territories are areas of wilderness carefully maintained to provide an environment for Athar food animals. Industrial centres and cities are most often constructed in areas that do not provide a suitable environment for these animals, and are usually run by the government.

Athar buildings are huge structures designed to provide shelter to an extended family, their possessions and their livestock. They consist of a large central chamber and adjoining apartments for the family leader and his close relatives, and a series of linked rooms for each of the other sub-families. A typical house might be some kilometres across and contain up to a thousand individuals. The Athar display a preference for rounded tines, domes, and arches.

World Technology Level (T)[edit]

A'a'suni possesses a Technology Level of TL–5.

World Government (G)[edit]

A'a'suni is governed by a Charismatic Dictatorship. Charismatic governments justify their ability to rule by simply asserting their right to rule. Charismatic dictatorships are typically young governments, coming as a recent change, and rely on the leader(s) to supply head of government.

  • The world is actually run by a bureaucracy divided into a number of Councils, all concerned with different aspects of life on A'a'suni. Some of the most important include the Council of the Environment, the Council of Provision, and the Council of Defense. Usually a single extended family forms the core of a Council, and is headed by the leader of the family.
  • The overall leader -- the charismatic dictator in question -- is a figure with the title I'Suther.

World Law (L)[edit]

A'a'suni has an extreme law level which covers every area of interaction. Laws are complex, detailed, and difficult to understand. Every interaction with the government requires an Advocate. Law enforcement is omnipresent and strict. Legal proceeding can take months to years to resolve and may involve dozens of people. A world with this law level may be an Amber Zone or a Red Zone. All objects specifically manufactured as weapons are typically regulated or prohibited (with no exception for private residences; visiting starships are only protected so long as they stay within designated starports and approach corridors). Civilian movement is rigidly controlled. On worlds with this degree of law, it is difficult to distinguish the police from the military. On others, there is no difference.

World Timeline[edit]

  • -400,000: The Athar develop animal herding.
  • -9000: Athar at TL-1 civilisation. They are contacted by Vilani scouts, and almost immediately inundated by merchants seeking new markets and exotic alien items.
  • Circa -5300: During the Consolidation Wars, the Athar briefly resist the Vilani, but are forced to capitulate when they are threatened with nuclear weapons. Athar are now at TL-7.
  • Circa -2200: A'a'suni is quietly brought into the Rule of Man.
  • -1776: The coming of the Long Night marks the end of a golden age for the Athar. Their technology, artificially raised by both the Vilani and the Solomani, plummets back to TL-3.
    • During part of the Long Night, the Medurma Pact claims A'a'suni as a member state by default, but there is no real interaction.
  • 0: To trailing, the Third Imperium is founded. Athar technology has climbed back to TL-4.
  • 83: A'a'suni voluntarily joins the Imperium.
