Grote is a nonindustrial vacuum world, which warrants hazardous environment precautions.
- Life in a vacuum requires great discipline. After all, it only takes one forgotten seal on a vacuum suit to spell death. Those who survive tend to be very methodically-minded and attentive to small detail.
- As a nonindustrial world, it requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. The need to import most manufactured and high technology goods drives the price of these goods up in the open market.
- It is a member of the Third Imperium in the Glisten Subsector of Spinward Marches Sector in the Domain of Deneb.
- It is a mainworld which is a satellite of either a gas giant or another world.
Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]
Grote is a member of the Spinward Main.
- It lies on the Collace Arm
Stellar Data[edit]
Grote has a solitary primary star named Regis.
- It is a white main sequence.
System Data[edit]
The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:
- The mainworld. It is the largest moon of the large gas giant Aethelstan.
- x4 secondary rocky worlds.
- x2 planetoid belts.
- x4 gas giants.
(An alternative version of the Grote system can be found here.)
The worlds of the system are, in order:
- Horsa, a small hot vacuum world orbiting at 0.5 AU.
- Godwin, a hot standard atmosphere desert world orbiting at 0.7 AU.
- The Inner Belt, lying at 1.0 AU.
- Aethelstan, a small gas giant orbiting at 1.6 AU.
- Grote, the mainworld, is its largest moon.
- Edward, a cold thin atmosphere hell world orbiting at 2.8 AU.
- Cnut, a large gas giant orbiting at 5.2 AU.
- The Outer Belt, lying at 10 AU.
- Edith, a frozen superterran world orbiting at 20 AU.
- Ethelred, a large gas giant orbiting at 40 AU.
- Ethelbert, a small gas giant orbiting at 77 AU.
All of the gas giants and most of the secondary rocky worlds retain moons.
Mainworld Data[edit]
Grote is the largest moon of a small gas giant named Aethelstan.
The mainworld and its gas giant primary orbit within the star's Habitable Zone.
- They lie within the zone's prime H region.
- They receive moderate levels of stellar energy.
- The gas giant is "puffy", warm and swollen due to the energy it receives from the star.
Mainworld Size (S)[edit]
Grote is a Meso World between 5,600km and 7,200km in diameter. The world has low gravity between 0.32G and 0.46G. The horizon will appear about 3.6km away.
Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]
Grote has a pressure of less than 0.001 atmospheres which requires the use of a Vacc Suit. TL–8 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.
Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]
Grote has no free-standing water or ice on the surface. Wilderness refueling isn't possible on this world. Water for the inhabitants needs to be imported and extensively recycled. These worlds are classified Desert World or a Hell World depending on their atmosphere.
Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]
No centrally held map of the world exists within AAB Library Data records.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
The inhabitants of Grote more or less exclusively operate the starport and its associated facilities. The locals make their way as traders and ship-builders, with custom built small ships a specialty.[2]
The starport is operated by SIE.[3]
World Starport (St)[edit]
Grote has a Class A Starport, an excellent quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and other kinds of repair, and construction of both starships and non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.
World Population (P)[edit]
Grote has a population of 10,000 sophonts (tens of thousands).
- This is a Nonindustrial World, too small to support the complete chain of production of most goods from start to finish.
Linguistic Topography[edit]
The following languages are most commonly heard:
- Anglic, one of the two official languages of the Imperium.
- Vilani, one of the two official languages of the Imperium.
World Technology Level (T)[edit]
Grote possesses a Technology Level of TL–11 or TL-B in Hexadecimal Notation.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Holovision, Personal Global Communications, and advanced Translators.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Increasingly advanced fusion plants and advanced fuel cells.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land, Water & Air: Personal G-Tubes and advanced gravcraft.
- Space: Advanced interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).
- FTL: Jump Drive-2.
World Government (G)[edit]
Grote has no central government or substantial government apparatus; an Anarchy. The largest governmental structure would be a family, tribe, or single clan. The largest group will be between 50 and 100 individuals, and there may be dozens to hundreds of them. This governmental structure can be stable over long periods of time if the population remains small or geographically separated.
World Law (L)[edit]
Grote has a moderate law level with laws covering many areas of government and interaction. These laws are simple enough that most people can act as their own advocate, though for serious issues a professional is recommended. Law enforcement officials will be present, but not in great numbers. Light assault weapons, and anything more destructive, are typically regulated or prohibited.
Imperial Landed Nobility[edit]
Grote, as a member world of the Third Imperium has a member of the Imperial Landed Nobility who acts as an Imperial representative to the world.
