History & Background (Dossier)
Howood is aromatic and its scent is especially pleasing to Vargr.
It is also beautiful; the size, colors, and intensities of its rings and striations vary unpredictably with the characteristics of the environment in which the plant grows.
Travellers' Aid Society Advisory
The Travellers' Aid Society (TAS) classifies howood as non-threatening to most sophonts and makes no special advisory regarding this organism.
However, it is noted that howood contains unique protein structures that are highly allergenic to many sophont species including Ael Yael, Bwaps, and Vargr. Howood has not been adequately tested and its allergenic status amongst many species is unknown at this time. Many species of Humaniti seems to possess no allergic reactions to howwod although some physicians suspect that many Minor Human Race species may be vulnerable to howood.
