The rank of Major (O4) is the commissioned officer rank in the Imperial Army that commands a Detachment or has duties of similar importance.

Description (Specifications)[edit]

Each Detachment in the Imperial Army larger than a Company will be commanded by a Major. The rank is also used for some administrative posts within a Battalion. Several staff posts at Regiment level (where these exist) or higher are also held by Officers with this rank.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

The rank of Major is derived from sergent-majeur which was (at the time) either the chief commissioned officer of a battalion or the third most senior commissioned officer (below the Colonel and his Lieutenant Colonel) in a Regiment.
