The Orichalc Subsector of the Alpha Crucis Sector contains 37 worlds, many of them clustered within jump-1 distance of one another. The subsector has a population of 76.3 billion; the highest population is 70 billion, at Cthonia. The highest tech level is F at Quetzlcoatl.
In the last months of the Solomani Rim War five worlds in the subsector fell to the Imperial Navy, creating a two-parsec wide strip on the spinward border under Imperial control. The remaining worlds belong to the Solomani Confederation or are neutral.
Orichalc’s proximity to the Solomani Rim has made the subsector one of the longest-settled regions of Alpha Crucis. Light Vilani settlement during the Ziru Sirka was followed by much heavier Solomani emigration at the end of the Interstellar Wars period. During the late Rule of Man the centrally located Cthonia grew to prominence as a trading hub and industrial center. Cthonia retained its influence even during the Long Night, establishing a protectorate over nearby worlds.
Today, Cthonia’s influence persists in the form of the Orichalc Regional Defense Association (ORDA), a military alliance of 14 worlds in Orichalc and Auva subsectors. But despite Cthonia's historical dominance, by 1105 the most important world in the subsector is actually Summit, a high population, heavily industrialized system.
